You can stream a rights-cleared Kannada music program continuously by sending a looping media file from a Linux VPS to YouTube Live with FFmpeg. The loop keeps the input playing; it does not make the broadcast outage-proof. You still need the right music permissions, a stable VPS connection, a protected YouTube stream key, monitoring, and a recovery plan.
Before you start: clear the music rights
FFmpeg transports audio and video; it does not grant permission to broadcast songs. You are responsible for having the necessary rights for the territories and uses involved, including livestreaming and any archive or video-on-demand copy you intend to retain. YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions put that responsibility on the provider.

Recommended Free Tools
Do not assume that buying a track, finding it labelled “free,” or adding an attribution line gives you livestream or archive rights. Keep written permission or license records. If a rights holder uses Content ID, ask whether your channel needs to be added to an allowlist. YouTube warns that a licensed third-party track can still interrupt a live stream if the channel has not been allowlisted; its live-stream copyright guidance explains the issue. No particular Kannada song, album, label, or catalogue is cleared by this guide.
Prepare a media file to loop
Use one pre-rendered file for the simplest setup
For a first stream, make one video file that combines the authorized playlist in your chosen order with a still image or other visual you have permission to use. This keeps the FFmpeg input simple and avoids having to synchronize separate audio and visual inputs. Build it only from assets you are authorized to use; the exact editing tool and Kannada music catalogue depend on your workflow and licenses.

Check the finished file before uploading it to the VPS: play it from beginning to end, confirm the audio and visual are present, and verify that the transition from the end back to the beginning is acceptable. FFmpeg will repeat the whole file, so an unwanted gap or abrupt ending will recur on every loop.
Allow for the VPS upload connection
Your VPS must be able to sustain the outgoing stream bitrate, with headroom for network variation. The required capacity depends on the resolution, frame rate, codec, and bitrate you select. Measure the actual VPS-to-YouTube route and test the stream before relying on it; this guide does not establish a universal VPS bandwidth, CPU, or RAM requirement.

Create the YouTube Live stream and protect its key
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room. Create or schedule a live stream using the options presented for your channel.
- Copy the server URL and stream key shown for that stream. Use the exact ingest URL from Studio, not a guessed or copied example URL. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it in a tutorial, repository, public log, or shell history. Store it in a root-readable configuration file or another secret mechanism. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio.
- Check the channel’s stream settings and status. Follow the ingest mode and encoder options shown in Live Control Room. For a scheduled stream, start the encoder and wait for the preview; then use the Studio control to go live when the stream is ready.
Choose encoder settings that match the stream
YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance recommends RTMPS and lists H.264, H.265, and AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; and frame rates up to 60 fps. It also recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval. The right bitrate depends on the chosen codec, resolution, and frame rate, so use the matching row in YouTube’s current table rather than treating one value as universal.
For H.264, YouTube’s current recommendations include 5 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps, 6 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps, and 3 Mbps for 480p at 30 fps. These are platform recommendations, not a VPS performance guarantee. Check the current table and the options shown in your account before streaming, because platform guidance can change.

- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
Start a continuous FFmpeg stream
The following is an illustrative starting command for a compatible single-file input, not a certified production configuration. It uses H.264 video, AAC audio, 30 fps, and a 1080p30-style video bitrate example. Change the output settings to match your intended resolution and YouTube’s current recommendation, and make sure your installed FFmpeg build supports the selected encoder.

Replace the input path and the quoted destination with your actual file and the exact server URL and key from YouTube Studio. Do not paste a real key into a command that will remain in shell history or appear in process listings or logs. Test privately or with an appropriate test setup, then confirm the preview and stream health in Live Control Room before making a scheduled broadcast public.

Keep the VPS process running and recover deliberately
A looping input is only one part of a 24/7 station. A VPS can lose network connectivity, run out of resources, or have FFmpeg exit because of a bad input or encoder error; YouTube can also stop receiving the feed. Run FFmpeg under a process supervisor such as systemd, configure an appropriate restart policy, and keep logs managed so they do not grow without limit. Add monitoring for VPS uptime, CPU, and network, with alerts that reach someone able to respond.
A supervisor restarting FFmpeg does not prove that YouTube’s broadcast remained healthy or that the scheduled event is still live. After an interruption, inspect the process logs and YouTube Live Control Room preview and health indicators. Confirm that the stream is being received before assuming viewers can see it. No particular VPS provider, monthly bandwidth charge, or guaranteed continuous service is established here.

Plan YouTube archives separately
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but its archive live streams guidance warns: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” For an always-on station, decide whether to create shorter broadcast sessions and keep a separate local recording or archive backup if the recording matters. An external drive is one optional place to keep a local backup; YouTube does not specify a required storage type or capacity.
