To send OBS Studio to Wowza Streaming Cloud, configure the stream as a custom destination in OBS and enter the current destination address and credentials supplied for your active Wowza live-stream configuration. Test the complete connection before broadcasting. Wowza’s current dashboard labels and ingest requirements are not verified here, so use the values and limits displayed for your own configured stream rather than copying an old example.
Before you configure OBS
You need an active Wowza live-stream configuration and its current encoder destination details. Obtain the destination address and the associated stream name, key, or other credential from that configuration. The exact labels and account-navigation steps can vary; do not reuse another account’s values or a static example from an older guide. Keep credentials private.

Historical documentation shows an OBS-to-Wowza RTMP workflow, but it does not establish that its screenshots, URL format, or dashboard steps remain current. Verify the protocol and connection details against the active Wowza configuration.

- Retrieve the active destination values. In your Wowza account, open or create the live-stream configuration and locate the encoder destination information it provides. Record the protocol, server address, stream name or key, and any authentication requirement shown for that stream.
- Open OBS streaming settings. In OBS, go to Settings > Stream. Choose Custom as the service. OBS documents this general custom-destination interface in its SRT setup guide; that guide does not establish Wowza or RTMP-specific values.
- Enter the matching values. Put the Wowza-provided server or destination address and stream credential into the corresponding fields in OBS. Follow the current Wowza configuration if it specifies a different arrangement or authentication method. Do not publish or share the key.
- Set output quality within the limits of the service and your setup. Choose a bitrate, resolution, and frame rate that your upload connection and encoder can sustain and that Wowza accepts. OBS notes that bitrate depends on upload speed and the receiving service’s limits; computer performance also varies with encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity.
- Test before broadcasting. Start with a private or otherwise controlled test, and confirm that the stream reaches Wowza as expected before making a public broadcast. OBS recommends testing before a first live stream.
Choosing settings without guessing
There is no verified Wowza-specific bitrate, resolution, frame-rate, keyframe interval, or port value established here. Use the current requirements shown for your Wowza configuration, then select OBS output settings that fit those limits and your system. If Wowza does not show a requirement you need, consult its current support documentation rather than relying on a generic streaming preset.

OBS’s minimum system requirements are not a guarantee that a computer can stream at a particular quality. As OBS puts it, “Having a compatible system does not guarantee that it is capable of streaming or recording using OBS.” Start conservatively and adjust only after a successful test.
Troubleshoot connection and quality problems
- OBS cannot connect: Confirm the Wowza stream is configured and active, and that you copied the address and credential from that exact configuration. A 2019 OBS forum exchange advised a user with a connection problem to check that the cloud instance was activated; this is one anecdotal case, not a guaranteed diagnosis.
- Check protocol and authentication: Compare the protocol, host, port, stream name or key, and authentication requirements in Wowza with the values entered in OBS. Confirm the selected OBS destination matches the intended endpoint.
- Check network policy: A local firewall or network policy may block the protocol or port in use. The current Wowza-specific port and firewall requirements are not established here, so verify them against your account’s current configuration.
- RTMPS fails: Do not assume every server’s TLS configuration works with every client version. A 2025 forum thread reports one user’s RTMPS failure with a Wowza server and a response attributing it to that server’s TLS/key-exchange configuration; this single report does not show a general OBS–Wowza incompatibility.
- Video stutters or the system struggles: Reduce output resolution, frame rate, or bitrate in line with Wowza’s current requirements, then test again. OBS performance depends on encoder choice, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is an always-on YouTube channel playing uploaded videos rather than a live OBS camera or scene, StreamNeo is a separate option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It runs the loop from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home; uploads stream as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo streams to YouTube only and is not an OBS-to-Wowza destination. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start the free day.
