Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteTo loop recorded conference presentations on YouTube Live, play the videos through an encoder such as OBS Studio, connect OBS to a YouTube stream with the channel’s stream URL and key, and monitor the broadcast in YouTube’s Live Control Room. Use OBS’s Media Source for one video or its VLC Video source for an ordered playlist. Before broadcasting, confirm you have rights to the presentations and all included music and third-party material.
Choose the right OBS source
| Setup | Best for | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Media Source with Loop | One recorded talk or a single finished program file | Loads a local video file and restarts it when playback ends. OBS supports common formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM. |
| VLC Video with Loop Playlist | Several presentations in a planned sequence | Uses a playlist and restarts it when the list ends. VLC must be installed; for 64-bit OBS, OBS specifies 64-bit VLC. |
In either setup, the local computer runs the encoder and sends the feed to YouTube, so it must remain powered on and connected throughout the stream.

Prepare a loop in OBS Studio
Loop one presentation
- Open OBS and create or select the scene you want to use for the broadcast.
- In the Sources panel, add a Media Source and select the recorded presentation file.
- In the source properties, enable Loop, then confirm the source.
- Preview the presentation from beginning to end, including the transition from the final frame back to the first. Check that the picture is framed correctly and the audio is audible.
Loop a sequence of presentations
- Install VLC if it is not already installed. OBS says its VLC Video source requires VLC; match the installation architecture to OBS (64-bit VLC for 64-bit OBS).
- In your OBS scene, add a VLC Video source and populate its playlist with the presentation files in the intended order.
- Enable Loop Playlist. Leave shuffle off if the talks must play in conference order.
- Preview the whole sequence. Check the order and inspect the joins between talks for black frames, gaps, or abrupt changes in audio level.
These checks catch production issues before the audience sees them; the loop controls themselves do not guarantee seamless transitions between files.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Confirm channel eligibility early. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time live-streaming activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the event. See YouTube’s live-streaming access requirements.
- Create or schedule an encoder stream. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream using an encoder. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown by YouTube into OBS’s streaming settings. Treat the key as a credential: do not share it, and reset it if it is exposed. YouTube’s encoder setup guide describes the connection process.
- Send a test feed. Start streaming from OBS and wait for the preview in Live Control Room. Inspect picture and sound there before selecting Go Live for a scheduled event.
- Check who can watch. Test with the planned visibility setting—public, unlisted, or private—and confirm access from the channel or watch page and on a mobile device. YouTube recommends testing the stream path before the event.
- Allow upload headroom. YouTube recommends upload capacity 20% above the stream’s total bitrate. Shared networks can reduce the bandwidth available to your stream, so avoid relying on a connection that is already near capacity. Follow the current recommendations in YouTube’s encoder settings guidance.
- Monitor the broadcast. Keep an eye on audio, video, and stream status during the event. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Once the YouTube stream has ended, stop the encoder if it is still sending a feed.
YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours before an event and starting the stream at least 15 minutes before its scheduled start. These are YouTube’s operational recommendations, not guarantees about how long a particular connection or activation will take.

Clear rights before streaming recordings
Before you broadcast, check the presenter agreements and conference permissions, as well as rights for slides, embedded media, music, and any third-party video. YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility for obtaining the necessary rights on the person providing the content, including music licensing rights. Read the YouTube Terms of Service.
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. A license by itself may not prevent an interruption: if you have licensed third-party material, ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. An archived live stream can also receive a Content ID claim after the broadcast. These protections and risks apply regardless of whether the stream is public or unlisted; restricted visibility does not grant rights. See YouTube’s guidance on copyrighted content in live streams.

Local OBS or a hosted continuous stream?
OBS is a practical choice when you want hands-on control and can keep a computer and its network connection running. YouTube’s encoder guide also names Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming, but its current pricing and terms should be checked directly before choosing it. For any unattended setup, compare whether it supports your playlist workflow, what happens if the feed drops, and how billing works.

Common problems and fixes
- VLC Video is missing in OBS: Install VLC, matching OBS’s architecture; OBS specifies 64-bit VLC for 64-bit OBS.
- YouTube does not show an encoder preview: Check that OBS is using the stream URL and key copied from the intended YouTube stream, then verify the channel is eligible for live streaming. Keep the key private and reset it if compromised.
- The preview works but viewers cannot access the stream: Recheck the selected visibility setting and test the watch page from the channel and a mobile device before the event.
- The broadcast stutters or drops: Check the encoder and YouTube stream status, then make sure available upload capacity exceeds total bitrate by YouTube’s recommended 20% margin. Account for other users and devices sharing the connection.
- The stream is interrupted after a copyright match: Stop and review the detected content. Confirm that the recording and embedded material are cleared for the broadcast; if licensed third-party content is involved, contact the owner about adding the channel to its Content ID allowlist.
- The playlist restarts but the transition is rough: Review the file boundaries, audio levels, and talk order. A playlist loop restarts playback, but does not remove gaps or normalize differences between recordings.
Useful checks before going live
- Live streaming is enabled on the channel, and the channel meets YouTube’s eligibility requirements.
- The correct recording or playlist is loaded, with loop enabled and shuffle disabled if order matters.
- Presenters and rights holders have cleared the talks and any third-party material for the intended broadcast.
- The OBS feed appears in Live Control Room, sound and image are checked, and the intended audience can access the stream.
- The network has enough upload headroom for the total bitrate, and someone can monitor the broadcast.
