To stream prerecorded gaming VODs in sequence, play the local files through an OBS scene, send OBS to a YouTube Live event using its server URL and stream key, and check the preview before you release a scheduled broadcast. YouTube Studio manages the event; OBS supplies the video and audio. OBS scenes combine sources, which can include media, but the exact multi-file playlist controls depend on the OBS setup you have installed.
Before you start
Have the VOD files available on your Windows PC, an OBS installation, and access to the YouTube channel that will host the stream. Decide what viewers should see between videos and after the last one: for example, a planned intro, intermission screen, or end scene. OBS describes scenes as arrangements of sources, including media, so use the scene layout to compose the output you intend to send. OBS Studio Overview Guide

- Confirm that the files you intend to play are locally available.
- Decide which audio, overlays, and transitions belong in the broadcast.
- Protect the YouTube stream key as you would a password; do not show it in screenshots or recordings.
- Check that you have permission to rebroadcast all video and audio, including game footage and music. The steps below do not establish that a particular VOD is cleared for streaming.
Choose an immediate or scheduled YouTube event
| Option | Useful when | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Immediate stream | You want to begin now. | In YouTube Studio, choose Create → Go Live and use the Stream tab to set up the event. |
| Scheduled stream | You want to share an upcoming event and give viewers a chance to set reminders. | Use the Manage tab and choose Schedule stream. Once OBS sends the feed, check the Live Control Room preview and select Go live when you are ready. |
These event paths and the scheduled preview-to-release sequence are described in YouTube Help’s encoder instructions. For a scheduled event, sending video from OBS is not the same as releasing it to viewers: use the controls YouTube Studio displays for that event.

In OBS, create or select a scene for the broadcast and add the media playback source or playlist-capable source available in your installed setup. Arrange the scene so the video, audio, overlays, and any intro or end material appear as intended. OBS’s documentation describes the scene-and-source concept, but does not establish current click-by-click instructions for a local multi-file playlist on Windows; the exact source labels and playlist behavior can vary by setup. Do not treat a YouTube-hosted playlist URL as a substitute for local playback configuration.

Before going live, verify that the files play in the intended order, sound is routed correctly, transitions work, and the final file behaves as you want. If your chosen source does not advance through files as expected, consult the instructions for that source in your installed OBS setup rather than assuming a particular dialog or checkbox exists.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, create or open the event using the immediate or scheduled path above, then locate its stream connection details in Live Control Room.
- In OBS, select YouTube as the streaming service if that option is available. If it is not, copy the YouTube Live server URL and stream key into the corresponding encoder settings.
- Keep the key private. Anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your event.
YouTube’s instruction is: “To start streaming, enter your YouTube Live server URL and stream key into your encoder.” See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance. This workflow does not prescribe a bitrate, resolution, or keyframe interval: the sources used here do not verify current encoder recommendations for this specific setup, so do not rely on guessed values.

Test the output, then start the broadcast
- Before the public stream, test the configured OBS scene and stream behavior. OBS strongly recommends testing before a first live stream. OBS Studio Overview Guide
- Start sending the OBS feed to YouTube.
- For a scheduled event, wait for Live Control Room to receive the feed and show its preview. Check the picture and sound, then select Go live when ready.
- For an immediate event, follow the current on-screen controls in YouTube Studio to begin the broadcast.
Scheduled start and stop behavior can depend on event and encoder settings. An OBS community guide published in 2015 describes setups where separate Live Control Room actions are needed unless automatic start and stop are enabled; treat that as a reason to check the current controls, not as a rule for every event. OBS community workflow guide
End the stream and find the replay
When the broadcast is over, stop sending from OBS and end the event in Live Control Room as applicable. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived and can be found in YouTube Studio’s Live tab. That statement applies to streams shorter than 12 hours; it does not establish the same archive outcome for a stream lasting 12 hours or longer. YouTube Help

Troubleshoot common problems
- The event does not receive video: Confirm OBS is sending to the intended event and that the server URL and stream key match the details shown in Live Control Room. Re-enter them carefully if needed, and keep the key private.
- The scheduled stream is not public: Check whether the preview has arrived and whether YouTube Studio is still waiting for you to select Go live.
- The videos do not advance in sequence: Check the behavior and configuration of the media or playlist-capable source you selected. The exact current Windows workflow is not established here, so use the documentation for that installed source.
- Viewers cannot hear the VOD: Check the OBS scene’s audio routing during a test and confirm that the source’s audio is included in the output.
- The ending is abrupt or unintended: Test the final file and decide in advance whether the scene should transition to an end screen or other planned material.
- The replay is missing: Check the Live tab in YouTube Studio. YouTube’s cited automatic-archive statement covers streams under 12 hours only.
