YouTube’s general livestream requirements distinguish channel verification and eligibility—which enable live streaming—from 2-Step Verification, which adds a sign-in security step. To broadcast, build the playlist in vMix, connect it to YouTube either through YouTube Studio’s stream URL and key or vMix’s YouTube destination, then preview and monitor the stream.
Understand the two kinds of verification
YouTube channel verification and Google Account 2-Step Verification are different controls. YouTube says channel verification is part of enabling livestreaming; its general livestream guidance does not identify Google Account 2-Step Verification as a universal prerequisite. Check the channel’s current eligibility and restrictions before planning an event. YouTube says a channel must not have live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days. YouTube’s channel verification guidance explains the former; 2-Step Verification is an account sign-in setting, not the channel’s livestream verification step. An employer or account administrator may still require 2-Step Verification under a separate security policy.

Prepare the playlist in vMix
Add the video files you want to broadcast as vMix inputs and arrange them into a playlist. vMix documents playlist items with start times, durations, and transitions, and its training materials cover playlist functionality. The available official guidance does not establish every current click in the playlist editor, so use the controls shown in your installed vMix version rather than relying on an assumed menu path. Consult the vMix User Guide, version 29 and vMix training videos.

Choose how vMix connects to YouTube

Use YouTube Studio’s stream URL and key
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and open its stream settings. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions describe creating a live stream with an encoder.
- Copy the server URL and stream key shown for that stream.
- In vMix, select the YouTube/RTMP streaming configuration and enter the copied server URL and key in the corresponding fields. Use the settings associated with the stream you created, rather than a key from a different event.
- Start the vMix output when you are ready, then check YouTube’s Live Control Room preview before making the event public or proceeding with the planned broadcast.
Use vMix’s YouTube Live Stream Now destination
- Choose the documented YouTube Live Stream Now destination in vMix.
- If prompted, sign in to YouTube through the browser flow and authorize the account access you expect vMix to use.
- Create a stream from vMix or select a previously scheduled event, then review the event and its settings before starting output.
- Check the YouTube preview and verify the production is reaching the intended event.
Use Studio when its scheduling and settings controls are useful to you; the in-app route may reduce the amount of setup performed in Studio. For recurring broadcasts, decide whether to schedule an event and reuse the appropriate settings or create a new stream, and verify the selected event each time.

Protect the stream key and account access
YouTube describes the stream key as similar to a password and address for the stream. Do not publish it, include it in screenshots, or share it casually. If it is exposed, a channel owner or manager can reset it in Live Control Room; replace the old value in vMix before broadcasting again. See YouTube’s live stream settings guidance.
If vMix reports an “insufficient authentication scopes” error while signing in, vMix’s troubleshooting guidance says to log in again through vMix and grant the requested “Manage your YouTube Account” permission. Grant that access only if you expect vMix to operate your YouTube account. The documented fix is at vMix’s authentication-scope troubleshooting page.

Test the stream before the event
- Allow setup time: YouTube recommends configuring an encoder two hours before the event and starting it at least 15 minutes ahead.
- Wait for and inspect the Live Control Room preview before relying on the stream being ready.
- Check picture, playlist order, transitions, and audio; keep monitoring audio and video throughout the broadcast.
- Ensure available upload capacity exceeds the combined streaming bitrate with headroom. YouTube’s livestreaming tips and streaming tips cover setup and network preparation.
Copyright and channel-policy checks
Only include media you have the rights or permission to broadcast. YouTube’s live-stream rules and copyright enforcement can affect a stream or channel; channel eligibility is separate from whether particular videos are suitable to rebroadcast. Review the current YouTube requirements for your content and event, and do not assume that an existing video file is cleared for live use simply because it plays in vMix.
Troubleshoot common problems
