You can stream videos stored in Backblaze B2 to YouTube Live by adding a retrieval or staging step before an encoder: fetch each object from B2, rotate through the files in a media pipeline, then send the continuous feed to YouTube with its server URL and stream key. B2 stores the files; it does not perform playlist playback or YouTube encoding. The component documentation describes the interfaces, but does not provide or validate a complete end-to-end rotation command.
How the B2-to-YouTube workflow fits together
The system has three jobs: retrieve the source media, play it in the required order, and deliver a continuous encoded or muxed feed to YouTube Live. B2 is object storage, not a live encoder. The encoder must be able to access each file, whether the files are staged locally or fetched through a configured integration.

- Retrieve: download objects from B2 through its S3-compatible API or native API, or use an appropriate configured integration.
- Rotate: make the selected media pipeline play items in order and repeat or update the list as needed.
- Ingest: configure the encoder with the YouTube Live server URL and stream key, then monitor its output and YouTube stream health.
Backblaze recommends its S3-compatible API for most new integrations that can use existing S3 tooling. The API uses regional HTTPS endpoints, supports Signature Version 4, and includes object retrieval operations. See Backblaze B2 S3-compatible API and its integration guide.
Choose how the encoder gets B2 files
Stage files locally
Download the files to storage available to the encoder, then have the playlist process read those local paths. This separates B2 access from playback and can let playback continue through a temporary B2 interruption if the needed files are already present. It also requires local storage for the staged media and a process to keep the files current. Startup time, bandwidth use, and recovery behavior depend on your files, region, network, and implementation; measure them in your deployment rather than assuming a particular result.

Retrieve objects as needed
An integration can fetch each item when it is needed, reducing the need to keep a full copy locally. The playback process then depends on B2 access during operation, so plan for failed downloads and retries. Do not assume that a general-purpose encoder can authenticate to a private B2 bucket directly. You may need an adapter, a signed-access method, or another configured retrieval path. Backblaze documents presigned downloads in its S3-compatible API; whether a specific encoder accepts them is vendor-specific.
Configure B2 access
For S3-compatible tooling, use the endpoint for your B2 region in the form https://s3.<region>.backblazeb2.com and configure credentials for the supported API. Backblaze also documents object downloads through its native download API. Follow the relevant API and tool documentation for credential handling; do not place secrets in a public playlist or page.

Build and test the rotating playlist
The exact playlist and loop configuration depends on the encoder or media pipeline you select. The official material cited here does not establish a particular FFmpeg command for endlessly rotating B2-hosted files, nor does it verify private-bucket credential refresh, buffering, playlist updates, or reconnect behavior. Avoid treating a generic command as a tested solution: confirm the chosen software’s supported inputs and playlist behavior, then test it with your actual files and B2 access method.
- Specify the playback order and whether the list repeats from the beginning.
- Decide how additions and removals reach the running playlist, and what happens if an object cannot be downloaded.
- Check that all files can be played by the selected pipeline; incompatible formats can interrupt rotation.
- Test transitions between files for gaps or unexpected pauses.
- Test recovery after a failed download and after restarting the encoder.
For a dedicated encoder appliance or software running on an existing computer, verify supported inputs, codecs, unattended operation, and recovery behavior against that product’s documentation. Dedicated hardware is optional; YouTube’s encoder workflow does not make it a requirement.

Configure YouTube Live ingestion
- In YouTube’s live streaming setup, obtain the server URL and stream key for the stream you intend to use.
- Enter both in the encoder’s YouTube or RTMP(S) destination settings. YouTube’s instruction is: “To start streaming, enter your YouTube Live server URL and stream key into your encoder.” See Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Keep the stream key private. Store it in the encoder’s protected settings or other private configuration, not in a public playlist, page, or shared log.
- Start the encoder and check its logs and YouTube’s stream health before relying on a long-running broadcast.
YouTube’s API models the incoming feed as a liveStream and the viewer-facing event as a liveBroadcast; a broadcast binds to a stream. The LiveStreams resource exposes ingestion details and status or health information. The Broadcasts and Streams documentation describes their relationship and reuse patterns. YouTube also documents secure RTMP ingestion over RTMPS on port 443 in its RTMPS guide.
Monitor the stream and plan for failure
During a representative test, watch the encoder’s logs and YouTube’s stream health while the playlist moves through multiple items. Check the B2 retrieval path as well as the outgoing feed; a healthy YouTube connection does not prove that the next object will download or play correctly. The documentation establishes the relevant interfaces and health fields, not a guarantee of uninterrupted service.

- The available storage capacity may vary.
- A file does not start: check the object name and access permissions, then test retrieval independently of playback.
- The playlist stops at an item: inspect download and playback errors, confirm the file is supported, and verify the configured repeat or advance behavior.
- YouTube does not receive the feed: recheck the server URL and stream key in the encoder and review YouTube’s stream status.
- The feed drops during a long run: inspect encoder logs and the network path, then test the encoder’s reconnect behavior. The reviewed sources do not establish a universal reconnect setting.
- Private-object access expires or fails: check the selected authentication method and its renewal behavior; support varies by integration.
Keep stream and broadcast roles clear
If you use YouTube’s API, distinguish the persistent ingestion configuration from the viewer-facing broadcast event. YouTube’s documentation describes streams and broadcasts as separate resources that are bound together, including reuse patterns. Choose whether your workflow needs one reused stream configuration or separately managed scheduled broadcasts based on the operational control you need. Do not assume that rotating media files automatically creates or schedules YouTube broadcast events.

Before broadcasting, confirm you have the rights needed for every video and audio track in the playlist. A file being stored in your B2 bucket does not establish that you may stream it. YouTube’s copyright and monetization decisions are separate from the technical ability to ingest a feed.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want a YouTube channel to keep playing uploaded videos without leaving your own computer running, StreamNeo is an alternative: upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It runs the loop from the cloud, not directly from a B2 bucket. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on; each slot streams the uploaded quality as-is, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo, or start the free first day.
