The dependable approach is to make the videos available to an encoder—preferably as local files—arrange them in playback order, and send the resulting feed to a scheduled YouTube Live event using its stream URL and key.
What Google Drive can—and cannot—do here
Google Drive can store, play, and share individual video files. YouTube’s documented live workflow instead takes a video feed from an encoder using the event’s stream URL and stream key. The official documentation reviewed does not describe selecting a Drive folder or playlist as a direct YouTube Live input.

In this guide, “playlist” means a sequence arranged in playback or production software for the encoder. A video playing in Drive’s browser player is not, by itself, proof that an encoder can ingest it continuously. For predictable results, download or otherwise make the source files available locally and test the complete sequence before the scheduled event.

Confirm the channel can go live

Check your videos and permissions
- Confirm you have the rights needed to broadcast every video, including its music, images, and other included material. A video being stored in your Drive does not establish permission to rebroadcast it.
- Use media supported by your chosen playback and encoder setup. Google Drive lists formats including WebM, MP4-family formats, MOV, AVI, WMV, FLV, MTS, and OGG, but playback support varies by device. A format that plays in Drive is not necessarily suitable for every encoder.
- Make enough local storage available for the files if you plan to use a local playback setup. Check the order, filenames, durations, aspect ratios, and audio levels before building the sequence.
Understand Drive playback limits
Google Drive’s computer help page lists a maximum playback resolution of 1920 × 1080. Playback can also depend on internet quality and speed; a file may start playing while processing is still underway and may not yet be viewable on other devices or by people with whom it is shared. The page also says third-party cookies must be enabled for Drive video playback. See Google Drive’s video playback guidance.
These constraints matter if you are considering a remote Drive file as a source. Test sharing permissions, sign-in state, playback, buffering, and the whole sequence in advance. This is a practical precaution, not a documented Drive-to-YouTube integration.

How to run the playlist through YouTube Live
- Prepare the files. Make local copies of the source videos where possible, and verify that each opens and plays all the way through on the computer or production system you will use. Decide the sequence and what should happen after the final video. Do not assume the playlist will restart unless you configure and test looping.
- Schedule the YouTube event. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and use Manage to schedule a stream. Set the title, description, visibility, and other event details. YouTube says scheduling creates a watch page that you can share in advance and allows viewers to set reminders. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance.
- Copy the event’s connection details. In the event’s encoder settings in Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key into the corresponding fields in your encoder. Treat the key as a credential: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your event. Do not publish it or include it in a shared playlist or production note.
- Configure playback and the encoder. Add the videos to your playback or production setup in the required order, then send that program to the encoder output. Choose output settings supported by your encoder and connection, and check the aspect ratio, audio, transitions, and whether playback should stop or loop at the end. The official sources reviewed do not prescribe a particular playlist application or provide a Drive playlist ingest setting.
- Test before the event. Run the entire sequence through the same playback, encoder, network, and YouTube event path you intend to use. Use a private or unlisted test event if appropriate. Confirm the YouTube preview appears, check audio and video throughout, and verify what happens between clips and at the end. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring the broadcast rather than relying on a brief preview alone. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
- Check bandwidth and connection. YouTube advises that total outgoing stream bitrate fit within available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving 20% headroom. It also recommends RTMPS. Check the encoder’s output and YouTube’s incoming preview before starting the event; a local video playing smoothly does not guarantee the upload is stable. - Start and monitor the broadcast. Start the encoder, wait for YouTube to receive the feed, and inspect the preview before starting the event in Live Control Room. Keep an eye on the stream and listen for audio problems. YouTube advises continuous audio and video monitoring during a live stream.
- End the event cleanly. Stop the event in YouTube and then stop the encoder. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. If an archive matters, check the channel after the event rather than assuming a live feed and its recording are the same deliverable.
Choosing between a computer, hardware, or cloud playback
For a one-off or modestly produced event, a computer running playback and encoder software is the straightforward route. It gives you control over the sequence, but the computer, software, and network must remain operational for the broadcast.

When comparing options, check whether they accept local files or Drive sources directly, whether they support a one-time schedule or continuous looping, whether a computer must stay on, what monitoring and recovery controls they offer, and which output settings and network conditions they require. The official descriptions above do not establish that either option ingests a Google Drive playlist directly.

Troubleshooting common problems
YouTube does not show an incoming preview
- Check that the encoder is sending to the stream URL for the scheduled event and that the stream key is copied correctly.
- Confirm the encoder is actually running and that its output format and connection are supported by the selected setup.
- Keep the stream key private. If you suspect it has been exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube’s live settings before reconnecting the encoder.
A Drive video plays for you but not for the encoder or viewers
- Drive browser playback is not documented as an encoder input. Use a locally available file or an input method explicitly supported by your production software.
- If testing remote Drive playback, verify the file’s sharing access and sign-in requirements, processing status, and playback on the device and account that will be used. Drive playback may depend on third-party cookies and network conditions.
The playlist pauses, buffers, or ends unexpectedly
- Check that the files are fully available locally and that the playback setup is configured to advance between clips.
- Test the full sequence, including transitions and end behavior. Enable looping only if you intend continuous playback, and verify that it returns to the first item as expected.
- If using Drive as a remote source, test the whole sequence over the actual connection. A successful short preview does not establish reliable playback for the full event.
The YouTube preview stutters or drops
- Compare total outgoing bitrate with available upload bandwidth; YouTube recommends 20% headroom.
- Use RTMPS as recommended by YouTube, and test the connection before the scheduled broadcast.
- Check both the encoder’s status and YouTube’s incoming preview. If the source plays smoothly locally but the preview does not, investigate the network and encoder output rather than assuming the media file is at fault.
Viewers cannot see a shared Drive file
Confirm the file is processed and accessible to the intended viewers, and do not use a shared Drive link as a substitute for the encoder feed. The scheduled YouTube event is the destination viewers should watch; Drive is only a possible place to store or inspect source media.
