For a dependable archive, run shorter broadcasts that end comfortably before that limit and record locally as a backup.
Choose an archive-first broadcast plan
YouTube’s Live API supports recurring broadcasts and a 24/7 feed configuration, but those capabilities do not override YouTube’s archive warning. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; if a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all. It does not promise one uninterrupted replay covering an entire day. For an archive, use the second approach. Set each session to finish well before 12 hours, leave time to confirm the next broadcast is live, and avoid promising viewers that the handoff will be seamless.

Prepare YouTube and your gameplay encoder
Confirm live-stream eligibility
YouTube requires a verified channel with live streaming enabled, no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and a streamer who is at least 16. Enable streaming in advance and check YouTube Studio for restrictions before scheduling. YouTube’s encoder setup tips explain the workflow; its live streaming eligibility guidance covers account requirements.

Use an encoder for gameplay
For No Man’s Sky, an encoder is appropriate because it can capture gameplay and combine it with overlays, a microphone, or other audio. The encoder sends the outgoing video to YouTube; the Live Control Room is where you configure and monitor the broadcast. Exact menu names vary by encoder, so use its current instructions for selecting YouTube, entering a stream key, and choosing an ingest protocol.
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule the broadcast. Set the visibility you want for a rehearsal; an unlisted or private test can help you check the setup before a public session.
- Copy the stream key from the broadcast setup and enter it in the encoder’s YouTube stream settings. Treat the key like a password: do not show it on stream or share it publicly. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Choose RTMPS when the encoder and YouTube setup offer it. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the contribution feed to its servers.
- Set the encoder’s resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and keyframe interval. Match the output to the game capture and the connection you have tested rather than selecting settings solely for their maximum values.
Set video quality and bitrate
YouTube’s current H.264 recommendations include these example bitrates. They are encoder recommendations for the stated resolution and frame rate—not universal upload-speed requirements or a guarantee that a particular connection will remain stable.

Consult YouTube’s live encoder settings for the current table, including other formats and resolutions. Test the chosen output against the actual upload connection during representative gameplay. No Man’s Sky’s camera movement, flight, and changing scenery can reveal stutter or compression problems that a static test screen will not.

YouTube recommends keeping a local recording as a backup. Configure local recording in the encoder and choose a destination with enough free space for the quality and retention period you intend. A dedicated external SSD is one practical option, not a YouTube requirement; the right capacity depends on recording bitrate, quality, and how long you keep footage.

- Run an unlisted or private test with representative exploration, movement, and audio. Include the microphone or game audio you intend to use.
- Check the Live Control Room preview and stream health, then watch playback on another device to catch problems that are easy to miss at the encoder.
- Confirm the local recording file exists and its size continues to grow during the test. Open the finished test file to verify that it plays.
- If you use a backup encoder, test the failover before relying on it. YouTube recommends rehearsing the backup rather than assuming it will take over correctly.
- Before the archive sessions, confirm that the recording destination has enough capacity and that the stream key, schedule, and encoder settings match the intended broadcast.
Run sessions viewers can follow
Hello Games describes No Man’s Sky as an exploration and survival game in a procedurally generated galaxy. To make an archive useful beyond background viewing, keep gameplay visible and give sessions a readable structure: label locations or discoveries when practical, and maintain a short route or session log. These are editorial choices, not tested audience-growth tactics.
During each session, monitor both stream health and the local recording. End the broadcast before the archive limit, verify the replay and recording, then begin the next planned session. YouTube’s documentation does not guarantee a seamless transition between separate broadcasts. If you automate broadcasts through the API, check the current broadcast and stream documentation and account limits.

Check rights before monetizing or including music
The Hello Games End User Licence Agreement located for this guide is dated 25 January 2019. It permits sharing non-commercial gameplay screenshots and videos on personal social media and separately restricts commercial exploitation of the game. It does not clearly establish whether a current monetized, continuous YouTube livestream is permitted. Do not treat monetization as authorized on the basis of that wording; check the current terms and seek clarification from Hello Games before relying on commercial use.

The Hello Games press kit notes that the soundtrack includes work by 65daysofstatic, but the available material does not establish a special livestream music license. Check the applicable rights before including in-game music, particularly in a monetized broadcast.

Common problems and fixes
- The stream will not start: check that live streaming is enabled, the channel is verified and eligible, the broadcast is configured in YouTube Studio, and the encoder has the current stream key. Replace a key that has been exposed.
- The preview is black or shows the wrong content: check the encoder’s selected capture source and confirm the game is visible in the encoder preview before starting the broadcast.
- Video stutters or stream health degrades: compare the encoder bitrate with YouTube’s current recommendation for the selected resolution and frame rate, then test whether the connection can sustain it during gameplay. If not, lower the output settings and test again.
- The replay is missing or incomplete: a broadcast longer than 12 hours may not be captured. Keep sessions shorter and preserve the local recording as a separate backup.
- The local recording stops or is missing: check that local recording is enabled, the intended destination is selected, and adequate storage remains. Confirm the file is growing during the stream instead of waiting until the session ends.
- A handoff interrupts the feed: separate broadcasts require an orderly transition; YouTube does not guarantee an uninterrupted changeover. Schedule sessions with a buffer and verify the next broadcast in the Live Control Room.
