To stream a Gujarati devotional playlist to YouTube from Linux, prepare compatible media files, create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio, and send FFmpeg’s output to the server URL and private stream key shown in Live Control Room. The exact playlist command depends on the files: compatible inputs may be joined without re-encoding, while mixed formats may need filtering and re-encoding. Before going live, check YouTube’s current encoder settings, test upload capacity, preview the stream, and confirm you have rights for every recording and any archive.
Before you start
You need a Linux system with FFmpeg installed, the devotional audio or video files you intend to play, a verified YouTube channel eligible to livestream, and a reliable upload connection. YouTube’s undated eligibility guidance requires channel verification and no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.

- Check the installed FFmpeg build and its available options with
ffmpeg -versionandffmpeg -h. FFmpeg options can vary by build and version. - Confirm every playlist path exists and that you can play each source file locally.
- Decide whether you are streaming audio only or video with audio, and choose an output resolution and frame rate accordingly.
- Keep YouTube’s stream key private. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” See Manage live stream settings.
Check rights for each devotional recording
Religious or traditional subject matter does not automatically make a particular recording free to broadcast. Rights may apply to the recording and arrangement. Confirm that you have permission for each track, the territories where you plan to stream, the live broadcast, and any archive you intend to retain.
YouTube says all live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content. A detected match can cause a placeholder warning and, if transmission continues, a temporary interruption or termination. Even if you have a licence, YouTube says the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist to avoid interruptions. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

Create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to open Live Control Room.
- Create or select an encoder stream. Set its title, privacy, and other event details; choose the protocol and stream settings for your encoder.
- Copy the server URL and stream key from Live Control Room. Use the values shown for your stream rather than guessing a URL format.
- For a scheduled stream, start FFmpeg when you are ready to send the signal. Wait for the preview in Live Control Room, check the feed, and use the Go live control there when required for the scheduled event.
YouTube’s encoder guide explains the URL-and-key handoff and scheduled-stream preview flow: Manage live stream settings. Do not publish the key in a public script, screenshot, command history, or log. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room.
Prepare the playlist and choose a concat method
FFmpeg documents separate concat approaches for different situations. The concat demuxer is appropriate when the source streams are compatible and you want to avoid re-encoding. The concat filter is the choice when inputs need normalization or re-encoding. Do not assume that arbitrary files with different codecs, resolutions, frame rates, or timestamps can be stream-copied together seamlessly.
Use a concat demuxer for compatible files
Create a text file such as playlist.txt, with one file entry per line, using paths that are valid from the directory where you will run FFmpeg:

file '/absolute/path/to/track-02.mp4'
file '/absolute/path/to/track-03.mp4'
This is a schematic playlist, not a guarantee that these example files can be joined as-is. Check the media streams and timestamps first; the files need to be suitable for the demuxer and the selected output. FFmpeg’s documentation distinguishes the concat demuxer from other concat methods, and its concat FAQ explains when a filter is needed instead.
Use a concat filter when inputs need normalization
If the files differ in a way that prevents a compatible stream copy, construct an FFmpeg filter workflow that normalizes the streams and encodes a consistent output. The exact filter graph and command depend on the number of inputs, their stream layouts, and the FFmpeg build. Consult the FFmpeg filter documentation; do not paste a stream-copy command intended for compatible files and expect it to repair mixed inputs.
Choose YouTube-compatible output settings
YouTube’s undated encoder-settings page recommends CBR; H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; up to 60 fps; and a two-second keyframe interval, with a maximum of four seconds. It recommends RTMPS for encrypted ingest. The recommended video bitrate varies with codec, resolution, and frame rate, so use the current table for the exact profile you select: YouTube live encoder settings.

| Example H.264 mode | YouTube-listed recommended video bitrate | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | Video bitrate recommendation; audio bitrate and network overhead are additional. |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 14 Mbps | Video bitrate recommendation; audio bitrate and network overhead are additional. |
These are examples from YouTube’s larger recommendation table, not universal settings. Add the audio bitrate and overhead when estimating required upload capacity. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend testing upload speed and leaving about 20% bandwidth headroom; see YouTube’s streaming tips.

Use a compatible still-image or other video input if appropriate, and verify the resulting audio/video output in the preview. Choose settings that your source, encoder, and connection can sustain rather than selecting a bitrate solely because it appears in YouTube’s table.
Send the playlist with FFmpeg
FFmpeg reads input media and writes encoded output to a URL. The following is a schematic shape for a compatible concat-demuxer playlist; replace the placeholders with the actual server URL and key from Live Control Room, and verify flags against your FFmpeg build. It is not a tested command for every playlist or Linux distribution.

-f flv "YOUR_RTMPS_SERVER_URL/YOUR_STREAM_KEY"
This example illustrates one possible 720p30 H.264 video bitrate choice, not a universal profile. The input playlist must actually provide compatible video and audio streams for these options, and the keyframe settings must match the intended frame rate and YouTube’s interval guidance. If your files are audio-only, have different formats, or require resolution/frame-rate normalization, this example is not sufficient: use a suitable video input and/or a filter-and-encode workflow. Confirm the RTMPS output format and options against your FFmpeg build and YouTube’s current settings.
Do not place a real stream key in a script that others can read or in a shared command transcript. If you use shell variables or a protected configuration file to avoid exposing it, restrict access to that file and avoid logging its contents.
Test, preview, and monitor the broadcast
- Run an upload speed test and compare the measured capacity with your video bitrate, audio bitrate, and network overhead. Preserve about 20% headroom as YouTube recommends.
- Start FFmpeg before the planned broadcast. Check that it continues reading the playlist and does not report missing files, stream mismatches, or encoder errors.
- In Live Control Room, wait for the preview and inspect both picture and sound. Confirm the intended title, privacy, and event are selected.
- Start the scheduled event with the Go live control when it appears. Monitor stream health and audio/video quality during playback.
- Check the public or private watch page as appropriate to verify the viewer-facing result.
YouTube recommends preparing in advance, starting the encoder before the event, checking the Live Control Room preview, monitoring quality, and verifying the watch page. The steps above reflect its streaming tips.

End the stream and decide what happens to the archive
Stop the broadcast deliberately in Live Control Room and stop FFmpeg when the event is finished. YouTube’s undated encoder guide says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. Decide whether to keep the archive available, and make sure your rights cover that retained recording as well as the live transmission. See YouTube’s encoder guidance.
Troubleshooting
- No preview appears: Check that FFmpeg is running, the server URL and stream key are the ones shown for the selected Live Control Room stream, and the output protocol/settings match the stream configuration. Check FFmpeg’s error output without exposing the key.
- YouTube reports unstable or poor stream health: Compare combined video and audio bitrate plus overhead with measured upload capacity. Reduce the selected output bitrate or resolution if needed and retain the recommended bandwidth headroom.
- Playback stops or breaks at a file boundary: Check that the playlist entries exist and that source streams are compatible for the concat demuxer. If they are not, normalize and re-encode with a concat-filter approach.
- Audio is missing or video is rejected: Inspect the input streams and output configuration. An audio-only playlist needs a suitable video signal for the YouTube encoder feed; mixed source layouts may need filtering and encoding.
- A copyright warning interrupts the live feed: Review the matched recording and your permissions. If you have a licence for third-party content, ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist; otherwise choose material whose live use you can establish.
- The stream key may have been exposed: Reset the key in Live Control Room and update the encoder configuration with the new value.
