If Puppeteer captures a loading spinner, wait for the page’s actual ready condition before calling page.screenshot(). For a known spinner, wait until it is hidden; when possible, wait instead for a stable element or application state that proves the content you want is ready. A navigation event such as networkidle2 measures network activity, not whether the page has finished rendering its intended content.
Why Puppeteer captures the spinner
A browser navigation milestone and an application’s own definition of “ready” are different things. A page can reach the navigation condition you selected while its interface still displays a spinner or is waiting to update. Puppeteer’s screenshot guide shows navigation with waitUntil: 'networkidle2' before capture, while its Page API provides separate waits for selectors, functions, responses and network idleness.

The exact cause depends on the target site, its DOM and your script. The reliable fix is to make the screenshot wait on a condition tied to the page state you need—not merely on a generic navigation event.
Wait for the spinner to disappear
If the spinner has a stable selector and its disappearance reliably means the page is ready, use waitForSelector with hidden: true:

Wait for the desired content or application state
Spinner disappearance is a good condition only when the spinner’s lifecycle tracks completion. If it does not, wait for a positive signal: a stable result element becoming visible, meaningful text appearing, or an application-specific ready state. For example, if the site really sets the illustrative attribute below when its content is ready:

When readiness is a state rather than one element, Puppeteer’s waitForFunction() can wait for a condition evaluated in the page context. Use a real condition maintained by the application; do not assume a generic global variable exists. The available wait methods are listed in the Page API.
Choose the right wait condition

Puppeteer’s screenshot guide demonstrates waitUntil: 'networkidle2', and its Page API also documents waitForNetworkIdle() and waitForResponse(). Network quiet can be too early for an application update or unsuitable for a page with ongoing requests. Use it as a network condition, not as a universal readiness guarantee.

Diagnose a spinner that will not go away
- Verify sequencing and page identity. Await navigation and the screenshot, and make sure both operations use the same
Pagethat loaded the target URL. Puppeteer’s guide demonstrates the sequential navigation-then-capture pattern. - Inspect the actual DOM. Identify the spinner selector and the element or state that indicates the desired content is ready. Check whether the spinner is removed, hidden with CSS, or covered by another loading layer.
- Use a finite timeout and examine failures. A selector wait that times out means its condition was not met within the allotted time. Check whether the selector is correct and whether the page can reach the expected state before simply increasing the timeout.
- If readiness never occurs, inspect the page’s behavior. Check requests, console or runtime errors, authentication or consent overlays, and navigation or frame behavior. These are diagnostic possibilities, not confirmed causes for every spinner capture.
- Capture only after the verified condition. Keep the screenshot call after the wait for the content or state the output requires.

No. It is a network-idle navigation condition, not a guarantee that the application has finished rendering its intended content.
What does hidden: true mean for a selector wait?
Puppeteer waits for the selected element to be absent from the DOM or hidden. The option does not determine whether the page’s desired content is ready.
