How to Stream a Continuous ASMR Page-Turning Loop on YouTube Without a Restart Gap

Use OBS Media Source for one looping ASMR clip or VLC Video for a playlist, then connect it to YouTube Live. Learn what loop settings do—and what they cannot guarantee about the viewer’s restart gap.

To loop a prerecorded page-turning ASMR video on YouTube Live, set the clip to repeat in OBS, then connect OBS to the stream URL and stream key in YouTube Live Control Room. For one clip, use OBS’s Media Source with Loop enabled; for multiple clips, use VLC Video with Loop Playlist. These settings repeat the local source, but neither OBS nor YouTube promises a gap-free handoff for every viewer—so review the end-to-beginning seam in the recording itself.

Choose the right OBS source for your ASMR loop

Use Media Source for a single video file and VLC Video for a sequence of files. OBS documents looping controls for both. A loop control restarts local playback; it is not a guarantee that the transition will be frame-accurate or audio-seamless on YouTube.

One page-turning clip: Media Source

  1. Open OBS and select the scene that will carry the live stream.
  2. In the Sources dock, select + and choose Media Source. Name the source and confirm.
  3. In the source properties, select the local video file.
  4. Enable Loop, then select OK.
  5. Check Restart playback when source becomes active only if you want the clip to start over when that source becomes active again. This is separate from end-of-file looping: the loop repeats when playback reaches the end, while the restart option affects what happens when the source is activated.

OBS’s Media Sources documentation describes these controls: OBS Project: Media Sources (published January 11, 2022).

Several clips: VLC Video and Loop Playlist

  1. Install VLC before setting up the source. The VLC Video source requires VLC, and 64-bit OBS needs 64-bit VLC.
  2. In OBS, select + in the Sources dock and choose VLC Video.
  3. Add the video files in the order you want them to play.
  4. Enable Loop Playlist in the source properties and confirm.
  5. Play the source and check that the playlist order and transitions suit the intended listening experience.

OBS describes Loop Playlist as controlling whether the source restarts after it has run out of media files. This repeats the playlist; it does not certify a seamless transition for viewers.

Review the loop seam before going live

A correctly enabled loop can still have an audible pause or visual jump if the clip’s last frames and sound do not lead naturally into its first frames and sound. Review the recording at the point where it wraps from end to beginning, and adjust or re-edit the source if the transition is distracting. This is production advice; official OBS and YouTube documentation does not establish that a local loop will be gap-free for every public playback session.

  • Listen for a sudden silence, click, change in room tone, or abrupt change in page-turning rhythm.
  • Watch for a black frame, a jump in framing, or a visible change in lighting or page position.
  • In OBS, confirm the source is visible in the active scene and that its audio is not muted. Monitor the preview and audio meters during setup.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live

  1. Confirm that your channel can live-stream. YouTube’s help page says the channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16. Check your current eligibility in YouTube Studio because platform requirements can change. See YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming.
  2. Open YouTube Live Control Room and create or select the stream. For a scheduled stream, use the corresponding scheduled stream in Control Room.
  3. Copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube’s encoder settings into OBS’s streaming settings. YouTube’s live stream settings explain the key and URL workflow. Treat the key as secret: YouTube says, “Stream keys are like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Do not share or publish it.
  4. Start streaming from OBS. For a scheduled stream, wait until YouTube shows the encoder preview, then select Go live in Live Control Room, following YouTube’s encoder setup guide.
  5. Watch the YouTube preview and the OBS source while the stream starts. Confirm that the picture and page-turning audio are present before leaving the stream unattended.

YouTube’s DVR setting lets viewers pause, rewind, and resume a live stream; it does not make the source loop seamless. The encoder guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume that the same automatic archive behavior applies to streams lasting 12 hours or more.

Use the ordinary encoder path unless you need HLS

For a normal prerecorded OBS source, use YouTube’s stream URL and key with the standard encoder workflow. You do not need HLS just to loop a local file. YouTube documents HLS for cases such as HDR or codecs that RTMP does not support. HLS sends segments and has higher latency; YouTube’s HLS requirements include 1–4 second segments, TS format, a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, and HTTPS POST/PUT. See YouTube Help: Set up an HLS stream.

Common problems and fixes

The clip plays once and stops

For a single file, reopen the Media Source properties and make sure Loop is enabled. For a multi-file source, confirm you chose VLC Video and enabled Loop Playlist.

VLC Video is missing from the source list

Install VLC and restart OBS. Match the VLC architecture to OBS; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.

The clip restarts when you switch scenes

Check whether Restart playback when source becomes active is enabled and whether the source becomes inactive when hidden or switched away from. That option governs activation behavior, not whether playback loops at the end. Adjust the scene and source visibility behavior to fit your intended use.

The loop repeats, but viewers may hear or see a break

Inspect the source recording’s last-to-first transition. The repeat control cannot repair a pause, click, black frame, or jump already present at the seam, and the official documentation does not promise a gap-free transition for every viewer.

OBS is streaming but YouTube has no preview

Check that OBS has the correct stream URL and stream key for the selected YouTube stream, and that the stream is active in Live Control Room. If it is scheduled, wait for the preview and select Go live there.

The stream stops or the key may be exposed

Check the encoder connection and the stream status in Live Control Room. If the key has been shared or posted publicly, replace it in YouTube and update OBS with the new key. Keep it private because it can be used to send video to your stream.

Keep the page-turning content and stream eligible

Use footage and sound you have the rights to broadcast. A live encoder connection does not grant permission to use copyrighted music, recordings, or other people’s footage. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and settings pages explain platform access and configuration; check YouTube Studio and the current YouTube rules for the channel and content. A microphone is relevant when recording close page sounds, but it is optional when streaming an already recorded clip.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you do not want OBS and your computer to stay on, StreamNeo can run an uploaded page-turning video as a continuous YouTube stream:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Upload the recording or build a playlist.
  2. Add your YouTube stream key once.
  3. Go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud.

Nothing has to stay on at home. Every quality up to 4K 60fps streams as uploaded at one flat price per slot, without re-encoding or quality tiers.
