Before going live, confirm your channel is eligible, test the entire loop and its audio, and make sure you have rights to every part of the recording.
What you need before you start
- A fireplace video you created or have permission to broadcast, plus rights to any audio in it.
- OBS Studio installed on a computer that can stay powered on and connected throughout the broadcast.
- A YouTube channel that can access live streaming. YouTube’s published guidance requires a verified channel, no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and a streamer aged at least 16. Check access in the account you intend to use before preparing the stream. YouTube live-streaming eligibility.
- A reliable upload connection with enough capacity for the encoder settings you choose.
If this is the channel’s first live stream, YouTube says enabling live streaming may take up to 24 hours. Set it up ahead of your planned broadcast rather than assuming access will be immediate. YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance.

Loop the fireplace video in OBS
Use one video file
- Open OBS Studio and select the scene you want to use for the broadcast.
- In the Sources box, select +, then choose Media Source.
- Create a new source, name it, and select the fireplace video file on your computer.
- Enable Loop in the Media Source settings. Confirm that the source is visible in the preview and that its audio is routed as intended.
- Use the preview to check the video’s framing and playback. If the source does not fill the canvas, adjust it in the scene so the displayed image matches your intended output.
Use a playlist
If you want several clips to play in sequence, add a VLC Video source and build a playlist. Turn on Loop Playlist so playback restarts after the final item. OBS requires VLC for this source. The Media Source and VLC Video source are documented for Windows, macOS, and Linux. OBS media sources.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, open Go Live and create or schedule a stream using an encoder.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key provided by YouTube Studio.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream. Choose YouTube as the service and enter the stream URL and key in the appropriate fields. If OBS offers a direct account connection instead, follow its prompts and verify the selected YouTube channel.
- Keep the key private. YouTube describes stream keys as the credential that lets an encoder send a feed; if you think yours has been exposed, reset it in Live Control Room before broadcasting again. Manage live stream settings.
- Start the stream from OBS, then check the YouTube Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages before making the broadcast public or sharing it.
Choose stable encoder settings
Use the source’s actual resolution and frame rate as a starting point, then select a bitrate your upload connection can sustain reliably. There is no single correct bitrate for every fireplace video or network. YouTube recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval; do not set the interval above four seconds. Its encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for video, AAC or MP3 for audio, and Rec. 709 color space for SDR. YouTube encoder settings and bitrates.

- Protocol: Use RTMPS when configuring the ingest connection.
- Rate control: Set the encoder to CBR.
- Keyframes: Set a two-second interval; YouTube’s stated maximum is four seconds.
- Resolution, frame rate, and bitrate: Match the material and your stable upload capacity. Test the actual file; a mostly static scene does not guarantee a stable encode or connection.
- Color and audio: For SDR, use Rec. 709. Choose AAC or MP3 audio if the file includes sound.
YouTube transcodes the incoming feed for viewers on different devices and network conditions. Check the preview and stream-health indicators rather than judging output only from OBS. YouTube’s live encoder guidance.
Test the complete loop and plan for interruptions
Before relying on a long broadcast, test the entire playback cycle, including the transition from the end of the file back to its beginning. Listen for abrupt audio changes, gaps, or unintended silence, and watch the YouTube Live Control Room preview for picture or connection problems. YouTube recommends testing before going live and monitoring stream health. YouTube live-streaming tips.

A local OBS setup depends on the computer, OBS, and network remaining available. Decide how you will recover if the computer loses power, OBS stops, or the connection drops; for an unattended stream, someone may need to notice the interruption and restart the encoder. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. If preserving an archive matters, plan sessions under that limit and confirm the current archive behavior in Studio before relying on a recording. YouTube live-stream settings and archives.
Clear rights and understand monetization rules
Copyright applies to the video and audio
You need the necessary rights to broadcast both the fireplace animation and every sound in it, including crackling effects or background music. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match may replace the stream with a placeholder and issue a warning; unresolved content can lead to a temporary interruption or termination. Even licensed third-party content may be interrupted if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel. YouTube’s live-stream terms require creators to hold the necessary rights, including music rights where applicable. YouTube copyright guidance for live streams and YouTube Terms of Service.

Permission does not guarantee monetization
Do not assume a loop will qualify to earn money. YouTube applies monetization rules to live streams, and repetitive or mass-produced content may be ineligible. Its reused-content review is separate from copyright permission: reviewers consider whether the work adds meaningful original commentary, substantial modification, educational value, or entertainment value. A channel built from interchangeable loops may face policy review even when its assets are licensed. No policy source guarantees monetization for a particular fireplace stream. Common problems and fixes
| Problem | What to check | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| The video stops at the end instead of restarting | Media Source loop setting or playlist loop setting | Enable Loop for a Media Source, or Loop Playlist for a VLC Video source, then test through the end of the file. |
| YouTube does not receive the OBS feed | Stream URL, stream key, selected service, and channel | Re-enter the current URL and key from YouTube Studio and confirm the intended channel. Reset the key in Live Control Room if it may have been exposed. |
| Live streaming is unavailable | Channel verification, account restrictions, age, or first-time enablement | Check YouTube’s eligibility requirements in the account. If live streaming was just enabled for the first time, allow up to 24 hours for access. |
| Stream health shows connection or encoding trouble | Upload stability, bitrate, encoder status, and chosen resolution or frame rate | Watch the Live Control Room health messages; lower demanding output settings if needed and test again on the same connection. |
| The broadcast is interrupted by a content warning | Rights to all video and audio; whether the owner allowlisted your channel | Resolve the rights issue with the owner, use material you are authorized to broadcast, or stop using the matched material. A license alone may not prevent an interruption without allowlisting. |
