YouTube’s current guidance recommends 35 Mbps video for AV1 or H.265, or 50 Mbps for H.264, at that resolution and frame rate. A continuous broadcast also requires playback automation, a stable upload connection, and permission for every recording, composition, and visual used.
What you need for a continuous 4K60 devotional stream
- A rights-cleared playlist: Confirm permission to livestream each sound recording and underlying composition, use any lyrics and artwork, and monetize the broadcast if you intend to. Check that permission covers YouTube, your territories, the duration, and repeated or 24/7 playback. Technical support from YouTube does not grant music or image rights.
- A playback and encoding setup: A software encoder such as OBS can play or receive the playlist and send an encoded signal to YouTube. A suitable hardware encoder is another option. The computer or playback system must stay operating for a computer-based stream to continue.
- A reliable upload connection: At 4K60, the video bitrate alone can be 35 Mbps for AV1/H.265 or 50 Mbps for H.264 at YouTube’s recommended settings. Allow additional capacity for audio and network variation; a speed-test result is not a guarantee of sustained performance.
- Continuous-playback automation: Configure the chosen playback software to loop the playlist and handle the end of a file or process. YouTube receives the outgoing broadcast; it does not make a local playlist loop by itself.
YouTube’s Live Streaming API lists 2160p and 60fps as valid live-stream values. YouTube transcodes the incoming broadcast into formats for different devices and connections, so a 4K ingest does not mean every viewer will be offered or able to watch 4K. Set up and start the broadcast
- Clear the content rights. Make a track-by-track and asset-by-asset check before building the stream. Confirm rights for the recording, composition, lyrics if shown, and visuals. If monetization is planned, make sure the permission covers it. A licence to listen to a recording or upload a video does not necessarily cover continuous livestreaming.
- Choose the playback and encoder path. For a software setup, use a computer capable of playing the playlist while encoding at 3840 × 2160 and 60fps. OBS is one option, but its performance depends on the encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity; check its system requirements and test the actual machine. YouTube names the Blackmagic Web Presenter 4K as a hardware streaming solution capable of up to 2160p60. Confirm the exact model and source-input path before buying; a playlist does not inherently require a capture card or camera. - Prepare the YouTube live stream. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and select an encoder-based workflow. Copy the stream key and ingest details into the encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the stream key as a password: do not publish it or include it in screenshots. YouTube’s encoder setup guide covers creating a stream and connecting an encoder.
- Configure the encoder. Set 3840 × 2160 resolution, 60fps, a supported codec, CBR, and a 2-second keyframe interval. Choose the codec-specific video bitrate from the table, set supported audio encoding, and use RTMPS where available. Exact setting names vary by software and encoder.
- Check upload capacity. Test the connection from the location and network that will carry the stream. Compare sustained upload capacity against the selected video bitrate, with additional headroom for audio and fluctuations. If the connection cannot reliably hold the recommended bitrate, lower the output quality to a stable setting instead of forcing 4K60.
- Make the playlist continuous. Add the devotional videos as the encoder’s playback source and configure looping or playlist automation in that software. Set up what should happen when a file ends, the player closes, or the encoder disconnects. These recovery and looping controls depend on the chosen software; YouTube’s ingest documentation does not prescribe a universal playlist player.
- Test privately before going public. Send a test stream with representative audio and motion. Check that the stream reaches YouTube, sound remains continuous, the encoder is not overloaded, and YouTube Studio shows healthy stream status. Verify the expected quality options from a viewer device. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring stream health before and during the broadcast.
- Start the public or scheduled stream. Once the preview and stream health are satisfactory, start the broadcast in the encoder and make the scheduled stream live in YouTube Studio if required by the workflow. Keep monitoring the encoder, network, and YouTube stream-health indicators.

Software encoder on a computer
A software setup avoids buying a dedicated hardware encoder if you already have a suitable computer, but that machine must run the playback and encoding continuously. OBS says workload varies with encoder, output resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity. Test your own setup rather than assuming a computer that plays a file smoothly can also encode a stable 4K60 stream.
Dedicated hardware encoder
A dedicated encoder can handle the outgoing signal without relying on software encoding on a general-purpose computer. YouTube identifies the Blackmagic Web Presenter 4K as capable of streaming up to 2160p60. Check the precise device model, connection path for your playlist source, and current compatibility before purchase. A capture card is only relevant if the workflow actually needs to capture an external video source; it is not a default requirement for a playlist stream. OBS’s HDR capture-device guidance concerns HDR compatibility, not ordinary SDR playlist broadcasting.

Troubleshoot common failures
YouTube does not show a 4K60 stream
Check that the encoder is actually sending 3840 × 2160 at 60fps, not merely playing a 4K file into a lower-resolution canvas or output. Confirm the selected ingest codec and encoder settings, then allow time for YouTube to process the incoming signal. Viewer quality options may differ because YouTube transcodes for multiple devices and network conditions.
The stream buffers, drops frames, or reports poor health
Compare the encoder’s video bitrate with the connection’s sustained upload capacity, including audio and network variation. Check the encoder’s load and reduce the resolution, frame rate, or bitrate to a stable setting if necessary. The table’s minimum bitrate is not a guarantee of stable performance on a particular connection.
The playlist stops when a video ends
Configure looping or playlist advancement in the playback software, and test it with the final item in the list. Also check what the software does when a media file is missing, damaged, or cannot be decoded. YouTube cannot restart a local playback process that has ended.

The stream disconnects and does not resume
Check the network, encoder process, and YouTube stream-health messages. Configure reconnection behavior in the encoder or playback automation you use, and test recovery by safely interrupting a private test stream. Recovery controls vary by implementation; do not assume that YouTube ingest alone restarts a stopped source.
The picture is smooth but audio is missing or interrupted
Verify that the selected audio device or playlist audio track is included in the encoder output, that the chosen audio format is supported, and that audio levels are present in the test preview. Check transitions between files as well as the opening and ending of each track.

A stream key stops working or appears compromised
Confirm that the encoder is using the key for the intended YouTube live stream. If the key may have been exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder. Never share a stream key in a public post or screenshot.

Rights and practical checks for devotional content
Devotional subject matter does not automatically make a recording free to livestream. A traditional composition may have different rights from a particular modern arrangement or sound recording. Check each track and visual asset for the rights needed for this specific use, including continuous or repeated broadcasting and any intended monetization. If lyrics are displayed, check those rights too. YouTube’s technical setup documentation cannot determine whether a Kannada playlist is cleared for a particular channel, territory, or rights holder.
For a high-dynamic-range (HDR) workflow, verify the separate HDR signal path and equipment compatibility before setup. OBS says its HDR capture-device support is limited to Windows and lists tested devices; that guidance is not a requirement for an ordinary SDR stream.

A 4K60 upload bitrate needs a sustained connection, while a computer-based 24/7 broadcast also keeps local equipment running continuously.
