You can run a prerecorded fireplace video continuously on YouTube by running a video encoder on a cloud server and sending its feed to YouTube Live. YouTube receives the stream; the cloud server keeps the encoder and source video running, so your home computer does not need to stay on. The setup requires a YouTube channel eligible for live streaming, a video and audio track you have rights to use, a cloud host, and an encoder configured with YouTube’s stream URL and stream key.
What the cloud server does
A cloud server is a computer hosted in a provider’s data center. You install or run an encoder there, provide it with the fireplace video, and configure it to send a live feed to YouTube. YouTube’s encoder workflow uses a stream URL and stream key; YouTube documents the connection in its encoder setup guide.

This is different from uploading a video as a normal YouTube video: the encoder sends a live broadcast, even though the source footage is prerecorded. The server and encoder must remain available and continue sending data for the broadcast to stay live. YouTube’s documentation does not specify a single required cloud machine size, operating system, provider, or monthly cost; those depend on the video format and encoder configuration.
Before you begin
Enable live streaming on your channel
Your channel must be verified and must not have a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance. Enable it well before the planned launch.

Prepare footage and audio you are allowed to use
Secure the rights needed to stream and archive both the picture and sound. That includes music and ambient audio. A fireplace clip or soundtrack found online is not automatically cleared for a continuous rebroadcast. YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions make the channel operator responsible for following applicable rules and laws.
Choose a host and encoder
Select a cloud host capable of running your chosen encoder continuously and delivering the required upload bandwidth. Decide how the encoder will read the source file and keep sending it—for example, as a continuous loop if your chosen software supports that workflow. The precise commands, machine size, and cloud-provider steps vary by operating system, host, and encoder; YouTube’s connection instructions do not prescribe them.

Set up the cloud-to-YouTube stream
- Enable live streaming in YouTube Studio. Confirm the channel is eligible and allow time for first-time activation.
- Create or select a live stream in YouTube Studio. Open the stream’s encoder settings and obtain the YouTube stream URL and corresponding stream key. Treat the key like a password: anyone who gets it may be able to send video to your stream. Store it carefully and do not publish it in a script, screenshot, or public repository.
- Prepare the cloud server. Set up the host, upload or otherwise make the licensed source video available to it, and configure an encoder to use that video as input. Provide the YouTube stream URL and key in the encoder’s connection settings. YouTube explains the URL/key connection but does not prescribe cloud secret storage, so use the access controls or secret-management method provided by your host.
- Check outgoing bandwidth. YouTube recommends about 20% upload-bandwidth headroom beyond the stream’s bitrate. If you send primary and backup encoder feeds, account for both when estimating the required upload capacity. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
- Start with a test, not a full-day commitment. Start the encoder and check the preview in YouTube’s Live Control Room. Verify the event is accessible to the intended audience, and monitor picture and sound before relying on it. YouTube’s guidance also recommends testing encoder failover where applicable.
- Monitor the running broadcast. Check the encoder and YouTube preview for interruptions or quality problems. A cloud host removes the need to keep a home PC online, but it does not remove the need to plan for encoder, host, and connection failures.
Plan for interruptions, archives, and rewind
A 24-hour live stream is not a dependable 24-hour archive
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If you need a durable copy, keep a separate recording or plan deliberate shorter sessions and retain a backup; do not assume YouTube will preserve one uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast. YouTube’s details are in its live-stream archive guidance. YouTube also recommends local recording as a backup, though local recording is optional and separate from running the cloud encoder.
Do not promise full DVR rewind
Viewers may be able to pause and rewind a live stream with DVR, but YouTube says DVR availability can be limited or unavailable for very long streams, including streams exceeding 12 hours. See YouTube’s DVR guidance.

Common problems and fixes
- YouTube does not accept the stream: Check that live streaming is enabled, the correct stream is selected, and the encoder has that stream’s matching URL and key. If this is the channel’s first live broadcast, activation may still be pending.
- The preview buffers or drops: Compare the host’s available upload capacity with the encoder’s outgoing bitrate and leave the recommended headroom. Include a backup feed in the bandwidth estimate if you use one.
- The stream is live but viewers cannot access it: Confirm the event’s audience and visibility settings in YouTube Studio, then test access as an intended viewer before treating the broadcast as ready.
- Picture or sound is missing or poor: Check the source file’s audio and video, the encoder’s input and output selections, and the YouTube preview. Monitor the actual output during a test rather than assuming the source plays correctly.
- The archive is missing or incomplete: An uninterrupted broadcast beyond 12 hours may not be archived automatically. Keep a separate recording or use shorter planned sessions when preserving the content matters.
- The stream stops unexpectedly: Inspect the encoder and cloud host, then reconnect using the correct stream settings. YouTube recommends testing failover; a recovery plan should be verified before the broadcast depends on it.
