For seasonal storage, remove your RYOBI 40V battery from the tool, keep it clean and dry, and follow the charge and temperature directions in the manual for your exact battery and charger. One RYOBI OP40602 manual passage recommends storing packs above 30% and below 50% charge for more than 30 days, below 80°F, and charging normally every six months. A separate OP40754 manual gives different temperature limits, so those figures should not be treated as universal for every RYOBI 40V pack.
Prepare the battery for storage
- Remove it from the tool. Take the battery out before putting away a mower, trimmer, or other outdoor power equipment.
- Check the charge guidance for your model. For storage longer than 30 days, the RYOBI OP40602 operator-manual text recommends a 30%–50% state of charge. This is a model-specific instruction, not a universal rule for every RYOBI battery.
- Disconnect it from the charger. Remove the pack once it is fully charged; do not leave it on the charger for the season.
- Clean and inspect it. Keep the battery dry and clean. The OP40754 manual advises using a clean cloth and avoiding brake fluid, gasoline, petroleum-based products, and solvents. Do not use a pack that appears damaged; do not open or attempt to repair it.
Choose a storage location using your model’s temperature instructions
Temperature guidance varies by manual. The OP40602 long-storage passage says to store the battery below 80°F and away from moisture. The separate OP40754 manual says not to store or charge the pack below 50°F or above 100°F, and not to store it outdoors or in a vehicle. These instructions are not interchangeable. Check the manual supplied with your particular battery and charger before choosing a location such as a shed or garage.

Whichever location your manual allows, keep the battery dry and away from conditions that could expose it to moisture or temperature extremes. Do not assume that a garage or shed is suitable solely because it is indoors; its seasonal temperatures and dampness matter.

The OP40602 manual text says to charge the stored battery normally every six months. It does not call for keeping the pack on the charger between checks. When charging, use a RYOBI 40V lithium-ion charger and follow the specific battery and charger manuals.

RYOBI’s official OP4011A product page identifies a 40V, 2A lithium-ion charger and states that it is compatible with any RYOBI 40V battery. That stated compatibility does not replace the instructions for your own equipment; there is no need to buy another charger if you already have a working compatible one.
Return the battery to service safely
- Check the pack for visible damage and make sure it is dry and clean.
- Charge it using the matching charger, following the model-specific manual.
- Once charged and ready for use, remove it from the charger and install it in the tool according to the tool instructions.
If the battery is damaged, do not disassemble or try to repair it. RYOBI’s manual directs users to qualified service guidance or proper recycling and disposal.

Recycle or dispose of an unusable pack properly
Do not put a lithium-ion battery into ordinary disposal unless local rules explicitly allow it. RYOBI’s manual advises recycling or proper disposal and consulting local waste authorities about available options. Collection programs differ by location, so check with your local authority for the applicable route.
