Unplug chargers and remove packs when they are not in use; although Milwaukee says its referenced pack can remain on its charger without damage, unplugging is its general recommendation. Temperature limits and care details can vary by battery family and model, so use the manual for your specific pack.
Choose a dry, room-temperature storage spot
Milwaukee’s general guidance is to store batteries at room temperature and away from moisture. A dry indoor location is a better choice than a damp area where moisture could reach the pack or its terminals. Milwaukee gives this advice in its Batteries and Chargers FAQ.

The cited M18 lithium-ion manual warns that prolonged storage above 120°F can cause permanent capacity loss. Treat that as a warning specific to the M18 manual, not a complete temperature specification for every Milwaukee battery platform or model. Check the manual for your pack’s exact storage conditions.
Prepare the pack for downtime
Do not run a battery down solely to prepare it for storage unless its own manual says to. The cited M18 manual advises charging as needed and notes that its lithium-ion packs retain charge during storage longer than other battery types. It does not give a universal target charge level for long-term storage.

- REDLINK Intelligence: provides optimized performance and overload protection using total system communication between tool, battery and charger
Milwaukee recommends unplugging chargers and removing batteries when they are not in use. At the same time, the cited FAQ and M18 manual say the referenced pack will stop charging when full or will not be damaged if left connected to its charger. These statements distinguish the general unplug-and-remove practice from the specific reassurance about that pack and charger; check the instructions for your own models.
Keep water and harsh cleaners away
Do not expose a battery pack to water or rain. The M18 manual also warns against using oil or solvents to clean it because solvents can make the casing brittle and cause it to crack. Follow the cleaning instructions for your battery model rather than applying a cleaner or maintenance product by default.

Understand a rapid red charger light
In the cited M18 manual, a rapidly flashing red charger indicator means the pack’s temperature is outside the charging range, so charging is not taking place. Let the battery cool or warm to an acceptable temperature, then try again as directed by its manual. The indicator alone does not establish an exact temperature.

Get service instead of opening a damaged pack
Do not disassemble or attempt to repair a battery based on general care guidance. The cited M18 manual directs repairs to a Milwaukee service facility. If a pack behaves abnormally or needs repair, use Milwaukee’s service guidance for the specific battery rather than opening it.

Recycle a pack at end of life
The cited M18 manual recommends taking an end-of-life pack to a Milwaukee branch or service center, or to a participating retailer for recycling where available. It also warns that a discharged pack may still contain energy and recommends insulating its terminals with electrical tape before disposal. Check local disposal rules and Milwaukee’s current recycling options before taking the pack anywhere.

Milwaukee battery systems are not interchangeable by default: identify whether your tool uses M12, M18, or MX FUEL, then confirm both the battery and charger instructions. Milwaukee says its 48-59-1808 Rapid Charger accepts M18 and M12 packs and communicates with them about cell voltage, temperature, and charge status; that specification does not establish compatibility with MX FUEL. See Milwaukee’s 48-59-1808 Rapid Charger information and verify compatibility for your particular equipment.
