Where to store a Greenworks battery
Greenworks recommends indoor storage in a cool, dry area away from direct sunlight. Keep the battery off the charger unless it is charging, and leave the charger unplugged when not in use. Greenworks does not specify a special storage case in the guidance cited here. Its advice is not a blanket approval for garages or sheds: use one only if it meets the cool, dry indoor conditions and the temperature limits in your model’s manual. How to maintain charge during storage
For a battery that will sit unused, Greenworks advises checking its charge every couple of months. If the level has dropped, charge it back up before returning it to storage. Its product FAQ recommends storing the battery with a full charge. Follow the charging procedure in your own model’s manual rather than applying another model’s instructions.
Temperature: storage, use, and charging
Do not use or charge a battery when its temperature is outside the limits in the applicable instructions. Greenworks says a battery that is too cold may not operate; for a snow thrower, it advises letting a cold pack reach room temperature before use. If a battery is too warm, allow it to cool before use. The manuals set model-specific limits, so do not treat one product’s numbers as universal.

For example, the 2022 Greenworks 40V String Trimmer Operator Manual lists a battery storage range of 32°F (0°C) to 113°F (45°C), and a charger operating range of 39°F (4°C) to 104°F (40°C). Those figures apply to that manual’s product context, not every Greenworks battery or charger. The 2023 40V mower manual also warns against charging outside the specified temperature range because improper charging may damage the battery and increase fire risk.
Battery and charger compatibility
Greenworks batteries are platform-specific: match the battery voltage to the tool, then verify the exact models and any exceptions. Chargers are also designated for the corresponding voltage platform. Do not assume that a Greenworks-branded pack or charger works with every Greenworks tool.

- Some 80V snow throwers manufactured before September 2017 accept only 2.0Ah or 2.5Ah battery packs.
- The 60V 8.0Ah battery, model 2957102, is too tall to fit certain dual-port mowers, pressure washers, and wet/dry vacuums.
These exceptions and platform guidance appear on Greenworks’ battery product page and FAQ. Check the tool and battery model numbers before buying a replacement pack or connecting a charger.

- Do not use a damaged or modified battery.
- Keep an unused battery away from small metal objects that could connect its terminals.
- Use the charging instructions and temperature range specified for your model.
These precautions are stated in the Greenworks 40V mower manual; follow the manual supplied with your own product if its instructions differ.

Choosing a replacement battery
If you need to replace a pack, compare the battery’s voltage platform with the tool, check the exact tool model for fit exceptions, and consider capacity in amp-hours (Ah) for the runtime you need. Confirm that the charger is designated for that voltage platform. Greenworks sells battery packs, but the title alone does not identify a compatible replacement: verify your tool’s model and manual before ordering.
