The voice may come from a streaming device, cable box, or app rather than the television itself.
First identify which kind of narration you hear
- It speaks while you navigate: Menu labels, selections, or volume changes being read aloud usually point to a screen reader or spoken-menu feature. Depending on the platform, it may be called Voice Guide, Audio Guidance, TalkBack, or VoiceView.
- It speaks during a program: Narration describing characters, actions, or other visual details usually means audio description is enabled on the TV, playback device, app, or selected audio track. Look for labels such as Audio Description, Video Description, or described audio.
These are separate features on some platforms. For example, Amazon distinguishes Fire TV’s VoiceView, which reads interface text, from Audio Descriptions for compatible Prime Video titles. Amazon’s Fire TV accessibility guidance explains both.

Turn off spoken menus
LG TVs
On webOS 23 or later, press Settings on the remote, then go to All Settings → General → Accessibility → Audio Guidance and switch Audio Guidance off. Menu names and locations can differ on older software. LG support also distinguishes Audio Guidance for menus from Video Description for program narration.
Samsung TVs
On supported Samsung Smart Remotes, press and hold the volume control (+/−) for at least two seconds to open Accessibility Shortcuts, then switch off Voice Guide. The shortcut and navigation vary by remote and TV model. If the shortcut is unavailable, consult Samsung support for the exact model rather than assuming a universal menu path. Google TV
Open Settings → Accessibility → TalkBack and turn TalkBack off. Google also documents a shortcut that uses Back + Down for three seconds, but it works only after the accessibility shortcut has been enabled and configured. Google TV accessibility instructions provide the details.
Amazon Fire TV
If the device reads menu text aloud, turn off VoiceView in Fire TV’s accessibility settings. Amazon’s instructions cover where to find the control for supported devices; menu details can vary by model and software. Fire TV accessibility guidance.

Turn off narration during a show or movie
LG TVs
For scene narration coming from the TV, open Settings → All Settings → General → Accessibility and switch off Video Description. If narration continues, check the connected set-top box: LG notes that its own setting may be off while the box still supplies the description. LG support.

Android TV
On Android TV, check Settings → Device Preferences → Accessibility → Audio description. Available options can differ by Android version and television model. Google’s Android TV accessibility instructions.

Amazon Fire TV and Prime Video
If narration occurs in a compatible Prime Video title, check Audio Descriptions rather than VoiceView. During playback, open the audio or language options and select a standard-language track if one is available; the precise controls depend on the device and title. Amazon’s guidance treats VoiceView and program descriptions as distinct settings.
Apple TV
For program narration, go to Settings → Accessibility → Audio Descriptions and turn the feature off, or choose a different audio option during playback. Availability varies by country or region and Apple TV hardware model. Apple’s Audio Descriptions instructions.

If the voice continues, check the whole playback chain
The television is only one possible source. Follow the video from its source to the screen and check each device that can control audio:

- Check the current app’s playback controls. Open the audio or language menu and select the standard-language track instead of a descriptive track, if the title offers one. The available tracks depend on the program. Google’s Android TV guidance and Apple’s instructions describe audio-description options.
- Check any streaming stick or box. Look for its screen-reader setting if menus are spoken, or its audio-description setting if narration occurs during a program.
- Check a cable or satellite box. If the TV’s Video Description setting is off but scene narration remains, LG advises checking the set-top box. LG support.
- Test another app or source. If narration happens only in one title or app, its audio track or playback settings are the likely place to look. If menus are spoken across sources, check the TV or device interface’s screen-reader setting.
Roku, Sony, Vizio, and other models
Menu paths and feature names depend on the exact model and software version. For Roku, Sony, Vizio, or another brand, search that manufacturer’s official support site using the model number and software version. Use the symptom to choose the setting: a screen reader or spoken-menu feature for interface speech; an audio-description setting or playback track for narration during video. Avoid applying a path for a different model as though it were universal.

Audio description is optional, not an error
Audio description makes visual information in a program accessible to people who are blind or have low vision. Turning it off changes the audio choice for your setup; you can turn it back on whenever you want it.
