Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →First identify which alert you mean. To turn off notifications about an unknown SmartTag that may be travelling with you, open SmartThings > Life > Find > ⋮ > Settings > Unknown tag detection > Unknown tag alerts and switch off Unknown tag alerts. If the alert says your own tag was left behind, turn off its separate Notify when left behind setting instead.
Turn off alerts for an unknown SmartTag
- Open the SmartThings app.
- Tap Life, then Find.
- Tap the three-dot menu and choose Settings.
- Open Unknown tag detection, then Unknown tag alerts, and switch the alert off.
Samsung documents this setting in its unknown-tag detection instructions; Samsung’s Newsroom explanation confirms the alert can be toggled on or off. The support page may describe enabling the feature, and menu names or locations can vary by app version and region.

If the alert says your own tag was left behind
This is a separate owner convenience alert, not an unknown-tag safety alert. In SmartThings Find, open the card for your tag, tap More, and switch off Notify when left behind. Samsung says Galaxy SmartTag supports this feature on Galaxy phones and tablets running Android 12 or later. See Samsung’s SmartTag guidance.

Keep a manual way to check for nearby tags
Turning off automatic unknown-tag notifications does not prevent you from starting a manual search. In SmartThings Find, tap Search for unknown tags near you, then tap Start. Samsung says this search is available to Android and iOS users, shows signal strength, and lets you mark identified tags as safe. Detection applies to tags compatible with SmartThings Find, not necessarily every tracker.
#1 Best Overall
- Find your things with ease: The SmartThings Find app uses Bluetooth and ultra-wideband (UWB) technology to locate and keep track of your stuff
- Water and Dust Resistant: IP67 rating offers protection against dust and water immersion between 15 cm and 1 meter for up to 30 minutes
- Compatible with Galaxy Devices Only
Remove a SmartTag you no longer use
Removing your own tag is optional and is not needed to disable unknown-tag alerts. If you want to unlink an unused tag, Samsung US’s device-removal instructions say to open Devices, select the tag, tap the three-dot menu, choose Remove device, and confirm.
