If an HDMI-connected streamer, console, or receiver keeps taking over your TV screen or powering devices on and off, first disable the specific auto-switch or auto-power feature on the device causing it. If that does not fix it, turn off HDMI-CEC on that device or the TV. The menu name varies by brand, and the setting may affect other linked controls you want to keep.
Find the device and setting causing the change
CEC lets HDMI-connected devices send control commands to one another. The TV and the source device can each have CEC-related settings, so check both ends of the connection. If one device consistently wakes the TV or takes over the screen, start with its settings; if the behavior happens with several devices, start with the TV.

Look for HDMI-CEC or the manufacturer’s name for it. Common names include:
- Samsung: Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC)
- LG: SIMPLINK (HDMI-CEC)
- Sony: BRAVIA Sync, BRAVIA Link, or CONTROL for HDMI
- Panasonic: VIERA Link, HDAVI Control, or EZ Sync
- Philips: EasyLink
These names are listed in Roku’s setup guide. Menu paths and available controls vary by model and software, so use the TV or device manual if the label is not where you expect.

Try the narrowest fix first
If the menu offers a control that matches the problem, disable that before switching off all CEC functions. This can stop unwanted switching or power commands while giving you a chance to retain other linked-device behavior. What remains enabled after changing a particular setting depends on the devices and their configuration.
Stop a Roku player from switching the TV input
On a Roku player, turn off 1-Touch Play if using the player causes the TV to switch inputs. Roku’s troubleshooting instructions recommend turning off the TV’s CEC setting as a next step if disabling 1-Touch Play does not resolve the issue. Labels and menu paths can differ by Roku model and software.

Stop a Sony TV from automatically switching inputs
Sony says turning off BRAVIA Sync stops the TV from automatically switching to the last input used by a connected HDMI-CEC device. Sony also identifies a separate TV Auto Power On option, which may be relevant if the problem is the TV powering on rather than changing inputs. See Sony’s BRAVIA Sync support page for the applicable settings; exact menu paths depend on the TV model.

Some Philips manuals provide an EasyLink auto device off setting. Disable that control if the unwanted behavior is connected equipment turning off. The option and its availability are model-family dependent; consult the manual for your specific TV. Philips manuals describe EasyLink controls in the Philips user manual.

- ■ 【FEATURES】HDMI CEC blocker. The CEC function can be manually turned on or off for devices connected to HDMI cables through the CEC adapter. This includes features such as automatically turning the TV on and off and automatically changing device inputs. Adapters prevent devices from having errors or incompatible CEC software when used together from faults, or prevent automatic commands from interfering with generic control system class devices.

Turn off CEC if the targeted setting is not enough
If the symptom-specific control is missing or the problem continues, disable HDMI-CEC on the device sending the command or on the TV. A full CEC shutdown is broader than turning off one-touch play or auto-power behavior, and may also remove linked controls you still use. Check the settings on the other devices before deciding whether to disable CEC throughout the setup.
Check the setup if the problem continues
For a Roku player that still switches inputs, Roku recommends checking the connections, restarting the player and TV, connecting the player directly to the TV if it currently passes through an AV receiver, and checking for a TV firmware update. These are Roku-specific troubleshooting steps; they are not a guaranteed fix for every brand or setup. See Roku’s troubleshooting guide.

Do not disable ARC or eARC by default
ARC and eARC carry audio over HDMI; CEC handles device-control commands. Some manufacturers discuss them together in setup instructions, but that does not mean ARC or eARC must be turned off to stop input switching. Roku treats HDMI-CEC and ARC as distinct setup options while noting that some brands couple settings. Before changing ARC/eARC, check your TV’s audio and control settings so you do not unintentionally disrupt your audio setup. See Roku’s setup guidance.
Consider a CEC-blocking adapter only as a last resort
A CEC-less HDMI adapter has been suggested in a user discussion as a way to block CEC for a single device while leaving other HDMI connections alone. That suggestion is anecdotal, not a verified compatibility recommendation or product test. Try the available device-level settings first, and confirm that any adapter you consider is suitable for your particular equipment. The discussion is at r/bravia.
