To hide Google’s trending-search suggestions, turn off Autocomplete with trending searches. The setting is separate for desktop Google Search, the Google app, and Google.com in a mobile browser, so change it on the surface where the suggestions appear.
Turn off trending searches on a desktop browser
- Open Google.com.
- At the bottom of the page, select Settings, then Search settings.
- Choose Other settings in the left menu.
- Under Desktop, switch off Autocomplete with trending searches. See Google’s desktop instructions.
Turn off trending searches in the Google app
Android
- Open the Google app and tap your profile picture or initial.
- Go to Settings > Other settings > Autocomplete settings.
- Switch off Autocomplete with trending searches. Google says this changes the preference for the Google app on the phone or tablet you are using. For Google.com in a browser, change the browser setting separately. Follow Google’s Android instructions.
iPhone or iPad
- Open the Google app and tap your profile picture or initial.
- Go to Settings > Other settings.
- Switch off Autocomplete with trending searches. This applies to the Google app on the device; Google.com in a browser has a separate preference. See Google’s iPhone and iPad instructions.
Turn off trending searches on Google.com in a mobile browser
These steps apply whether you use an Android device or an iPhone or iPad. Open Google.com in your browser, tap your profile picture or initials, then choose More settings > Other settings. Switch off Autocomplete with trending searches. Google documents this browser path in its Android and iPhone and iPad guidance.

What the setting turns off—and what it doesn’t
The control targets trending searches, not every suggestion that appears as you type. Google explains that Autocomplete can draw on several factors, including language, location, trending interest, and past searches. Its help page describes Autocomplete as a feature that makes searches faster to complete; disabling the trending-search option does not mean all Autocomplete predictions are disabled. Google also distinguishes Autocomplete from Google Trends. Autocomplete offers predictions during a search; Google Trends is a separate tool for exploring search popularity over time.

If trending suggestions still appear
- Check the surface. If you changed the setting in the Google app but see suggestions on Google.com in a browser—or the reverse—change the preference on that other surface too.
- Check which suggestions remain. The setting is for trending searches; other Autocomplete predictions may still appear.
- Look for the named control if menus differ. Google warns that Search service settings are being updated, so menu labels or layouts may not match the published steps for every user. Search for Autocomplete with trending searches in the relevant settings.
