If audio and video slowly fall out of sync during a YouTube loop, first find where the drift begins: in the original file, in OBS or another local encoder, or only in YouTube playback. A fixed audio offset can correct a fixed delay; it does not necessarily correct an offset that grows over time. Compare the same section at each stage, then use OBS’s dropped-frame status and YouTube’s stream-health messages to narrow down the cause before changing settings.
First identify where the drift starts
Check the same moment in the original recording, the encoder’s local output or preview, and the YouTube stream. Note whether the audio is already misaligned at the start or becomes progressively more misaligned as playback continues. This comparison is a practical way to isolate the fault; YouTube recommends testing with representative audio and movement, but does not prescribe this exact sequence.

- The original file drifts: The problem is present before streaming. Check or repair the media file before adjusting encoder settings.
- The original is in sync, but the local/OBS output drifts: Investigate the playback and encoding path, including OBS status and the stream settings.
- The local output is in sync, but YouTube playback drifts: Check the Live Control Room health messages and ingest settings. The available official guidance does not establish a single setting that fixes every gradual-drift case.
Also distinguish a constant offset from accumulating drift. If audio is always, for example, slightly late by the same amount, that is a different symptom from audio that starts in sync and gets increasingly late. Do not assume a fixed delay adjustment will cure the latter.
Check OBS for connection instability
While the stream is running, watch OBS’s dropped-frames counter and connection indicator. OBS says that an increasing “Dropped frames” counter alongside a yellow or red connection square means the connection to the server is unstable or cannot keep up with the configured bitrate. If you see this, investigate the connection and bitrate first; adding an audio sync offset does not address a connection that cannot sustain the stream.

- Open OBS and monitor the stream status while the loop is active.
- If dropped frames are increasing and the connection square is yellow or red, check the network path to the ingest server and whether the configured bitrate is sustainable.
- Make one relevant adjustment at a time, then repeat the same local-versus-YouTube comparison. OBS’s official Help Portal is available at obsproject.com/help; its stream buffering troubleshooting guide covers connection-related symptoms.
Read YouTube’s stream-health messages
In YouTube Live Control Room, inspect the Health Indicator and the errors shown alongside it. YouTube describes red errors as critical and yellow errors as moderate. Check any message about audio/video format, sample rate, channel count, frame rate, keyframe/GOP settings, or bitrate rather than guessing at a sync control.
YouTube’s live streaming error messages page explains the health warnings. Google’s developer documentation also describes health status messages for live stream resources.

Verify encoder settings and test the loop
Compare your encoder configuration with YouTube’s current live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions guidance. YouTube recommends a keyframe frequency of 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds. These are ingest recommendations, not a guarantee that a stream will never develop clock drift.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Review the actual encoder settings against YouTube’s guidance, including bitrate, frame rate, audio format, sample rate, channel count, and keyframe frequency.
- Test with the same kind of audio and movement as the loop. YouTube specifically advises: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream. Tests should include audio and movement in the video similar to what you’ll be doing in the stream.”
- Observe the test for long enough to reach the runtime at which the problem usually appears. This duration is a practical diagnostic choice, not a YouTube-prescribed test length.
- Record whether the drift is fixed or cumulative, whether it appears locally or only on YouTube, and any OBS or YouTube warning present when it occurs.
If you use primary and backup streams
For YouTube failover, the primary and backup feeds need matching settings. YouTube’s error guidance identifies sample rate, channels, codecs, frame rate, resolution, bitrate, and keyframe frequency as settings that should match. A mismatch is a configuration issue to resolve before treating failover as a remedy for sync drift.

- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
What a fixed audio offset can—and cannot—do
A constant offset and gradual drift are not interchangeable problems. An offset control, where available in your software, may be relevant when audio is consistently early or late; it is not established by the official guidance here as a universal correction for sync that worsens over time. The reviewed OBS and YouTube sources do not document a universal OBS timestamp option, audio-clock correction, or delay control that fixes gradual desynchronization in prerecorded loop streams.
Before choosing a specific setting, establish which software encodes the loop, whether the source file itself drifts, whether the local/OBS output drifts, and whether only YouTube playback drifts. Without that signal-path information, naming a particular device or setting as the fix would be speculative.

Common symptoms and next checks
- Audio and video are out of sync from the beginning: Compare the original file with local output. If the source is already misaligned, focus on the file; if not, trace the encoding path.
- They start in sync, then drift: Identify the first stage where the offset grows. A constant offset is not a demonstrated cure for accumulating drift.
- OBS reports increasing dropped frames and a yellow or red connection indicator: Investigate connection stability and configured bitrate before changing audio timing.
- YouTube reports a health error: Follow the specific warning and verify the relevant audio/video format or ingest setting in YouTube’s error guidance.
- Drift appears after switching to a backup feed: Check that primary and backup settings match across sample rate, channels, codecs, frame rate, resolution, bitrate, and keyframe frequency.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live; the cloud keeps the loop running without a computer or home connection staying on. It is not a camera-based live encoder, and moving a stream to the cloud does not itself diagnose drift in a source file.
