To stop your iPhone rejoining one saved Wi‑Fi network, turn off that network’s Auto-Join setting. To prevent automatic connections to nearby Personal Hotspots, set Auto-Join Hotspot to Never. These are separate controls; you don’t need to forget a network unless you also want to remove its saved password.
Stop automatic joining of one saved Wi‑Fi network
- Open Settings > Wi‑Fi.
- Tap Edit to see networks your iPhone knows.
- Tap the More Info button next to the network you want to change.
- Turn off Auto-Join.
The network and its password remain saved, so you can still select it manually from the Wi‑Fi list. The iPhone simply won’t automatically rejoin it after disconnecting. Apple’s instructions are at Forget a Wi‑Fi network or prevent your device from automatically joining it.

Choose whether to forget the network instead
Turning off Auto-Join preserves the saved credentials. To remove the network and its saved password, open its More Info screen and tap Forget This Network, then confirm. You’ll need to enter the password again if you connect later.
If iCloud Keychain is enabled, forgetting the network on one device also removes it from other devices using iCloud Keychain with the same Apple Account. On some supervised devices or managed networks, the option to turn off Auto-Join or forget the network may be unavailable. Apple’s Wi‑Fi instructions describe these limits.

Stop your iPhone from automatically joining Personal Hotspots
- Open Settings > Wi‑Fi.
- Tap Auto-Join Hotspot.
- Choose Never.
Ask to Join prompts you before connecting, while Automatic allows your iPhone to use an eligible nearby Personal Hotspot when needed and no Wi‑Fi network is available. For Instant Hotspot, devices need to be nearby with Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth on; they must use the same Apple Account, or be set up for connection through Family Sharing. Control prompts for networks you haven’t joined before
Ask to Join Networks governs notifications or prompts when networks your iPhone hasn’t joined before are available. It does not turn off automatic joining for saved networks; change the saved network’s own Auto-Join setting for that.

Open Settings > Wi‑Fi > Ask to Join Networks and choose Off, Notify, or Ask to set how your iPhone handles available new networks. Apple explains the distinction in its guide to connecting iPhone to the internet.
Stop a public Wi‑Fi welcome page from appearing automatically
Public networks that require a sign-in or acceptance page use a captive network. Joining that Wi‑Fi network and automatically logging in through its welcome page are separate behaviors. Turn off Auto-Join for the network to prevent automatic joining; if you want to remain connected but stop automatic sign-in, turn off Auto-Login separately in that network’s More Info settings. Why does an iPhone choose one known network over another?
An iPhone can automatically join known Wi‑Fi networks, and Apple describes how it ranks networks when selecting one. If a particular saved network is the problem, turn off its Auto-Join setting or forget it rather than changing the setting for networks you haven’t joined before. Apple’s explanation is How Apple devices decide which known wireless networks to auto-join.
