Start by identifying where the interruption comes from: a phone app mirrored to the wearable, the wearable’s own notification controls, or a manufacturer-specific system alert. Then change the narrowest setting that will stop it—usually notifications for one app or category. Use Focus or Do Not Disturb when you want a broader quiet period. Menu names and options vary by wearable, phone, and software version.
First, identify which alert you want to stop
Notice what the alert says or sounds like, and whether the same notification appears on your phone. A message from a phone app may be mirrored to a watch or glasses; a low-storage warning or device-status tone may instead come from the wearable or its companion app. The distinction matters: silencing a wearable may not stop a phone notification, and changing one app’s phone settings may not control a device-specific alert.

If the interruption is tied to one app, begin with that app’s notification settings. If only one kind of alert from an app is a problem, look for notification categories or channels. Choose Focus, Do Not Disturb, or a wearable mute mode when you want a wider quiet period.
Choose the narrowest control that fits

Stop selected alerts on a Wear OS watch
Block an app
- Open the Wear OS app on your phone, or the watch’s device companion app if that is what your model uses.
- Open the notification settings and block the app that is interrupting you. Some devices call this option “Filter watch notifications.”
- Send or wait for a notification from that app to check that it no longer appears on the watch. If you block the wrong app, return to the companion app’s notification settings and unblock it. Silence a broader period
Turn on Do Not Disturb on the watch or phone when you want fewer interruptions broadly. Some companion apps also offer “Silence phone while wearing watch,” which affects the phone’s alerts while the watch is being worn. Cinema mode on some watches temporarily turns off the display and prevents notifications from showing when you move or tap the watch; availability and behavior depend on the model. Filter notifications on Apple Watch
Change settings for one app
Apple says iPhone notification settings generally apply to the corresponding apps on Apple Watch. On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app and go to My Watch > Notifications to manage app alerts. You can also swipe left on a notification as it arrives to access options such as Mute 1 Hour or Turn off Time Sensitive. Exact options depend on the notification. Apple Watch notifications.
Use a quiet mode or silence one alert
For a temporary mute, Apple also documents covering the watch display for at least three seconds; a wrist flick can mute and dismiss a notification. For a longer quiet period, use Silent Mode, Do Not Disturb, or another mode from Control Center. Focus can filter notifications by activity or time period. Apple Watch notifications and Focus.

Quiet modes do not necessarily suppress every alert. Apple describes four interruption levels: Time Sensitive notifications can break through Focus or scheduled delivery, and Critical alerts can override Ring/Silent. Apps need an entitlement to send Critical alerts. Apple’s notification guidance.

To manage the glasses’ system-alert preferences, open the Meta AI app, go to Settings, then tap System Alerts. The Ray-Ban Meta FAQ describes push notifications about the glasses appearing on the phone lock screen—for example, a low-storage warning—and treats system sounds separately. This setting is not established as a control for every phone message or call forwarded to the glasses. For those, check the phone’s notification settings and the Meta AI app’s available preferences rather than assuming that System Alerts covers all mirrored alerts.
Reduce alerts on Android XR AI glasses
Android XR’s developer documentation says audio and display glasses use Android’s standard notification framework. Start in the paired phone’s notification settings: turn off notifications for the disruptive app, or disable only the relevant notification channel if the app provides one. Check the phone’s Do Not Disturb settings for quiet periods, then review the glasses’ current companion app for any device-specific controls. If notifications still get through
- Check both devices. Confirm whether the alert is controlled by the phone’s app settings, the wearable companion app, or a wearable-specific system-alert setting.
- Check the alert category. If other alerts from the same app are useful, look for a separate category or channel instead of blocking the whole app.
- Check quiet-mode exceptions. Focus and Do Not Disturb can allow selected people, apps, or priority alerts; Apple Time Sensitive and Critical alerts may behave differently from ordinary notifications.
- Restore a blocked app if needed. On Wear OS, use the companion app’s notification settings to unblock an app. Google’s help pages note that watch notification settings and phone settings can interact, and the available controls vary by device. Google Wear OS Help.
Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines offer a useful design principle for notifications: “You don’t want people to feel that a notification uses a high level of urgency to interrupt them with low-priority information.” That is guidance for app makers, not a promise about how a particular wearable handles alerts.
