To stop advertising texts in Google Messages, unsubscribe from an eligible business promotion if you want its non-essential messages to stop, or block the sender if you want no messages from it. Report a message as spam only when you suspect spam and are comfortable sharing report information. The Unsubscribe option is not available for every sender or region, and some requested essential messages may still arrive.
1. Unsubscribe from eligible business promotions
For a business conversation with an Unsubscribe option, open the conversation, open its menu, tap Unsubscribe, choose a reason if prompted, and confirm. Google Messages sends a “STOP” message from your phone number to the business. Google notes that unsubscribe keywords can vary in some countries, and the business is responsible for honoring the request. Google Messages Help.

Unsubscribe is intended to stop non-essential business messages, not necessarily every message from that business. Requested essential messages—such as one-time passwords or boarding passes—may continue, and you may receive a confirmation that you unsubscribed.

The option depends on the message type and your region. Google lists Unsubscribe for RCS for Business in the United States, Brazil, France, Germany, India, Mexico, Spain, and the United Kingdom. For SMS/MMS, Google lists US short-code and alphanumeric senders. If the control is missing, that sender or message type may not be covered; the feature is not a universal way to stop advertising texts. Google’s eligibility details.

Reporting has a data-sharing trade-off. Google says a report sends the sender’s number and recent messages to Google; a separate report to your carrier may send the number and the most recent text to the carrier. Google’s spam-reporting guidance.

5. Treat business verification and spam controls as separate checks
A verified RCS business profile means the business identity was checked by Google, a carrier, or a third-party provider. It does not mean you agreed to receive promotions or that the messages are wanted. Google says businesses must have explicit consent to send RCS messages. For a verified business you no longer want to hear from, use Unsubscribe when available if you want non-essential messages to stop; block it if you want all messages from it to stop. If a conversation disappears from the main inbox, check Spam & blocked before assuming it was deleted. Google says it cannot automatically remove a specific message or conversation from encrypted services; you can block the sender or delete the conversation yourself.
