The fix depends on whether you are watching a playlist or running the live stream. As a viewer, turn off playlist repeat and check that repeat-current-video is not enabled. As the channel operator, change the order and length of the source rotation in the playback or encoder workflow; YouTube’s help pages describe looping controls and live-stream setup, but do not document a built-in per-video cooldown for live streams.
First, identify what is repeating
YouTube playback controls and a creator’s live feed are separate systems. If you are watching a playlist, the repeat control on your device governs playback for you. It does not change the feed a channel sends to viewers. If the same ASMR video keeps returning during a continuous live broadcast, the operator needs to adjust the source sequence.

If you are watching an ASMR playlist
YouTube Help says, “When watching YouTube, you can play a video or playlist on repeat by looping it.” Turn off the relevant loop control if you do not want the playlist or video to start again. On desktop, the playlist loop control is in the playlist box. On Android, YouTube documents a playlist loop control and a separate repeat-current-video state, so check that the latter is not active if only one ASMR track keeps repeating. If you run the continuous live stream
A creator sends an encoder feed to YouTube Live Control Room using a server URL and stream key. The viewer’s repeat button does not edit that feed. In the source playlist or encoder workflow, arrange more distinct videos before the sequence returns to the first one. There is no evidence-based ASMR rotation length to prescribe: choose a sequence that suits your catalogue and audience rather than assuming a particular number of hours is optimal.

- Review the source sequence. Identify where the repeated video appears and whether it is repeated intentionally, duplicated in the playlist, or caused by a short rotation.
- Build a longer rotation. Add distinct recordings and arrange their order in the playback or encoder workflow that supplies the broadcast. The exact controls depend on the tool you use; the YouTube help pages cited here do not establish features for any particular third-party encoder.
- Connect the encoder. In YouTube Live Control Room, use the server URL and stream key for the live stream. YouTube’s encoder guidance says, “To start streaming, enter your YouTube Live server URL and stream key into your encoder.” Treat the stream key as private; do not share it publicly. - Check the preview before broadcasting. Confirm that the expected video and audio are coming through and that the source order is correct. YouTube recommends checking the Live Control Room preview and monitoring stream audio and video while live. See YouTube Help: YouTube live streaming tips.
- Monitor the rotation. Watch or listen for an unexpected restart, missing item, silence, or a video appearing sooner than planned. If the sequence is wrong, correct it in the source workflow rather than relying on a viewer-side YouTube control.
YouTube’s help pages on looping, encoder setup, and live-stream settings do not document a native live-stream option to delay a particular video’s next appearance by a set number of hours. They also do not establish an optimal repeat interval for ASMR. Stream-key reuse settings and DVR are live-stream controls, not a documented per-video cooldown; see YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings.
Check channel eligibility and archiving
YouTube’s current live-stream guidance says a channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days; its getting-started page also states a minimum age of 16. Eligibility rules can change, so check YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming before planning a broadcast. YouTube says encoder streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume that archive behavior changes the source rotation itself. Common problems and fixes
- One playlist video repeats, but other videos do not: Check whether repeat-current-video is on, then turn it off. This applies to viewer playback, not the channel’s outgoing live feed.
- The whole playlist starts over: Turn off playlist looping in the playlist controls on desktop or Android.
- A live broadcast repeats a video too soon: Inspect the source sequence for duplicates or a short rotation, add more distinct recordings, and verify the new order in the preview.
- The preview does not show the expected content or sound: Check the encoder’s selected source and the server URL and stream key, then verify the preview again before going live. Monitor audio and video during the stream.
- You cannot start streaming: Check channel verification and any live-stream restrictions, then consult YouTube’s current eligibility guidance.
