YouTube’s documented interface lets you create a playlist and save videos one at a time; it does not document CSV import. For a repeatable batch, use the YouTube Data API: read the URLs from your CSV, extract each video ID, create a playlist, then add each valid ID in the file’s order. This requires a Google Cloud project, the YouTube Data API, and OAuth authorization.
Choose the right way to add your list

Prepare and check the CSV
- Keep a backup. Work from a copy so you can retry or inspect rows if an import fails.
- Identify the URL column. YouTube does not define a required CSV schema in the reviewed documentation, so the file does not need a particular header name. Your script or importer must know which column contains the links.
- Use a CSV parser. Do not split every line on commas: quoted titles or other fields may contain commas. A proper parser handles quoted fields and preserves each row as a record.
- Extract and validate video IDs. Parse supported YouTube URL forms and take the video ID rather than passing the whole CSV row to the API. Reject blank or malformed rows, and preserve the original row order.
- Decide how to handle bad rows. Keep a log linking each row to its outcome. Choose whether the process should continue after an invalid or inaccessible video or stop for review.
The API accepts a video ID in the playlist-item resource, not a raw CSV row. The exact URL forms your parser supports are an implementation choice; test it against a few rows from your own file before processing the full list.

Create the playlist with the YouTube Data API
- Set up access. Create or select a Google Cloud project, enable the YouTube Data API, and configure an OAuth-authorized application. Playlist write requests require OAuth; the documented scopes include
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/youtubeandhttps://www.googleapis.com/auth/youtube.force-ssl. Use the scope appropriate to your application and handle authorization securely. - Create the playlist. Send a
POSTrequest to https://www.googleapis.com/youtube/v3/playlists usingplaylists.insert. Include a title; the request body can also set a description and privacy status. Save the returned playlist ID for the next step. - Add each video in CSV order. For every validated ID, send a
POSTrequest to https://www.googleapis.com/youtube/v3/playlistItems usingplaylistItems.insert. Setsnippet.playlistIdto the ID returned in step 2 and setsnippet.resourceIdto an object withkindequal toyoutube#videoandvideoIdequal to the extracted ID. - Record every result. Log successful insertions and the row, ID, and error for failures. Continue or stop based on your chosen policy; do not silently discard failed rows.
- Verify before sharing. Check the playlist’s items and privacy setting in YouTube. Confirm the order, title, and visibility are what you intended.
Quota to budget
Google for Developers lists a cost of 50 quota units for each playlists.insert call and 50 for each playlistItems.insert call. The overview describes a default allocation of 10,000 units per day for most other YouTube Data API endpoints, subject to change. For a single playlist with n successfully submitted items, budget at least 50 × (1 + n) units for these creation and insertion calls; retries or other API calls add to usage. - Open a video on YouTube.
- Select More → Save → Create new playlist.
- Enter a name, choose a privacy setting, and create the playlist.
- For each subsequent video, select Save and choose that playlist.
This is practical for a short list, not a CSV batch import. YouTube Help notes that some Made for Kids content cannot be added from the homepage; it may be possible to add it from search results instead. See YouTube Help on creating and managing playlists.

Consider a browser extension carefully
Chrome Web Store listings advertise extensions that import YouTube URLs or CSV files into playlists. Treat these as third-party tools, not an official YouTube feature. Before granting access or signing in, inspect the extension’s requested permissions, developer identity, recent update history, and privacy disclosures. Check whether Google authorization uses the official flow, and understand what data the extension can access and how it handles it. A store listing’s claims alone do not verify safety or service quality.
Troubleshoot failed imports
- A row is rejected before the API call: it may be blank, malformed, or in a URL form your parser does not support. Check the original row, revise parsing if appropriate, and test the extracted ID.
- The API reports
videoNotFound: the ID may be invalid or the video unavailable. Check the link and record the row as failed rather than treating it as added. - The API reports
playlistItemsNotAccessible: the video may not be accessible for the attempted playlist operation. Verify access and review the row-level error before retrying. - Playlist creation or insertion is unauthorized: confirm the user completed OAuth authorization and that the application requested a suitable documented scope.
- A large batch stops partway through: inspect the project’s current quota and your success/error log. Resume from rows not confirmed as successful; avoid blindly repeating inserts that may already have succeeded.
- The playlist is missing or has the wrong visibility: use the returned playlist ID to verify that you created the intended playlist, then check its privacy status before sharing.
