On a Lenovo laptop running Windows 10 or 11, start by opening Task Manager while the screen flickers. If Task Manager flickers too, a display-driver issue is more likely; if it stays steady, an incompatible app is the likelier cause. That distinction helps you choose the next check instead of assuming the screen panel has failed.
What the flicker can tell you
Microsoft says screen flickering in Windows is usually caused by a display-driver issue or an incompatible app. The Task Manager comparison is a quick way to separate those possibilities, though it does not prove which component or program is responsible.

- While the screen is flickering, open Task Manager. You can press Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
- Watch Task Manager and the rest of the display at the same time.
- If Task Manager flickers too, follow the driver checks below. If it remains steady while other content flickers, investigate recently installed or updated apps first.

Reset the graphics driver
Press Windows key + Ctrl + Shift + B. Microsoft says this shortcut may reset the graphics driver and may fix the issue; it is not a guaranteed repair. The screen may briefly go dark or you may hear a sound as Windows resets the driver.

Choose the driver action that fits the timing
- Flicker began after a recent update: In Device Manager, expand Display adapters, right-click the graphics device, select Properties, open the Driver tab, then choose Roll Back Driver if available. Windows may not offer rollback if it has no previous driver saved.
- No recent update appears to be the trigger: Check for a driver update or uninstall and reinstall the display driver. The exact steps and driver vary by Windows version and device.
For a Lenovo-specific driver, first identify the exact laptop model and use its Lenovo support page; do not guess a driver or BIOS file. Lenovo’s display and monitor troubleshooting guidance and its Windows 10 flickering-screen guidance for the listed IdeaPad and ThinkPad models are model- and version-specific.
If Task Manager stays steady, investigate apps
When Task Manager remains steady but other parts of the display flicker, Microsoft’s test points more toward an incompatible app. Consider which app was recently installed or updated, and update it or uninstall it to see whether the flicker stops. Change one suspect app at a time so you can tell whether the symptom changes.

Check that resolution and refresh rate suit the display
Windows offers resolution and refresh-rate options according to the display and hardware. Select only a resolution and rate supported by your particular Lenovo system; there is no universal 60 Hz setting that applies to every model. Some Lenovo computers support dual refresh rates, so choices can differ even within the brand.

Note when and where the flicker happens
Before changing more settings, note whether the problem began after a Windows or driver update, occurs only in one app, appears when connecting or disconnecting power, or affects the desktop broadly. These patterns can help narrow the next check, but none alone confirms a failed panel or another specific part.

If app troubleshooting, driver steps, and supported display settings do not resolve persistent flicker, ask Lenovo or a qualified technician to diagnose the exact model. Lenovo’s guidance recognizes repair or replacement of faulty hardware as a possible outcome, but the symptom alone cannot establish that the panel is faulty. Check warranty coverage and model-specific compatibility before authorizing repair or buying a replacement part; laptop display panels are not universal.

Lenovo’s listed flickering-screen support page discusses hardware repair as an escalation, but does not establish that a particular replacement panel fits every Lenovo laptop.
