A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11First identify what leaked: a Kinde API key, an M2M client secret, or an access token already issued to the agent. They are different credentials. Revoke an exposed API key and make sure your API checks Kinde’s verification result; replace an exposed M2M secret to stop future token requests; and treat an already-issued access token as potentially usable until it expires unless your resource server independently enforces revocation.
Identify which Kinde credential leaked
“AI agent key” is not a precise credential type. The right containment step depends on what the agent holds:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Kinde API key: A manageable credential used to authenticate with APIs. Kinde says revoking one prevents it from authenticating with your APIs, provided the receiving API enforces the verification result.
- M2M client secret: An application credential used to request OAuth tokens. Replacing it blocks future token requests made with that secret; the reviewed Kinde guidance does not establish that it invalidates tokens already issued.
- Access token: A bearer credential already issued to the agent. Revoking it does not shorten its documented lifetime at every resource server.
Also check whether a refresh token or other credential was exposed. Containing one value does not establish that separately copied credentials have been invalidated.

Contain the leak based on credential type
If a Kinde API key leaked
- Revoke the key using the applicable Kinde user or organization key-management screen, or the relevant API. Kinde states: “Revoking an API key immediately prevents it from authenticating with your APIs.” Kinde’s API-key documentation
- Confirm your API checks Kinde’s key-verification response and rejects the request if the result is invalid or the key status is not active. If your API accepts requests without checking that status, revoking the key alone may not stop that API from accepting it.
- Replace the key anywhere it was legitimately in use, then update dependent systems and agents with the replacement.
If an M2M client secret leaked
- Use Kinde’s application credential management to replace the exposed secret. This is the step that stops new tokens being requested with the compromised credential. Kinde’s M2M API-access guidance
- Review which APIs the M2M application is authorized to access and revoke authorization that is no longer needed.
- Do not assume rotating the secret invalidates tokens already minted with it. Check how each API validates tokens and handles expiration or revocation.
If an access token leaked
Use Kinde’s documented revoke operation, a POST to /oauth2/revoke, with the required token and client credentials. Kinde’s API documentation However, Kinde explicitly cautions: “Note that revoking a token, ending a session, or deleting a user does not shorten the lifetime of an access token that has already been issued.” Kinde’s access-token documentation

- FAST & CONVENIENT LOGIN: Plug in your Security Key C NFC via USB-C and tap it, or tap it against your phone (NFC) to authenticate. No batteries, no internet connection, and no extra fees required.
- TRUSTED PASSKEY TECHNOLOGY: Uses the latest passkey standards (FIDO2/WebAuthn & FIDO U2F) but does not support One-Time Passwords. For complex needs, check out the YubiKey 5 Series.
- BUILT TO LAST: Made from tough, waterproof, and crush-resistant materials. Manufactured in Sweden and programmed in the USA with the highest security standards.
That means a successful revoke request is not proof that every API will reject every copied token immediately. Determine whether each resource server checks revocation, relies on local JWT validation, or uses another enforcement mechanism; its behavior controls what happens to a token already in circulation.
Check caches and API enforcement
Even a revoked API key can appear to keep working if an API or intermediary is relying on a cached successful verification or authorization decision. Kinde recommends briefly caching positive API-key verification results, giving 5–10 minutes as an example where appropriate. Review that guidance against your own cache policy.

- FAST & CONVENIENT LOGIN: Plug in your YubiKey 5C NFC via USB and tap it, or tap it against your phone (NFC), to authenticate. No batteries, no internet connection, and no extra fees required
- MOST SECURE PASSKEY: Supports FIDO2/WebAuthn, FIDO U2F, Yubico OTP, OATH-TOTP/HOTP, Smart card (PIV), and OpenPGP. That means it’s versatile, working almost anywhere you need it
- PRIMARY & SPARE KEYS: Just like having a spare house key, we recommend buying two YubiKeys - one for daily use and one as a spare. That way you’ll never get locked out of your accounts
- Find caches or local authorization decisions that could outlive the revocation event.
- During containment, purge or bypass affected cached decisions, or shorten their validity as your system permits.
- Test the revoked key against the actual API. Confirm it rejects an invalid or inactive verification result rather than trusting an earlier success.
- For bearer tokens, separately verify how the API handles expiry and revocation; an API that only validates a token locally may not learn about a revocation immediately.
Audit use and assess the incident scope
For a revoked API key, use its key_id to audit associated events and look for unexpected activity. Kinde recommends replacing a key that was in use and considering rotation of related keys if the exposure may be broader. Kinde’s API-key best practices

Check where the exposed value was stored or deployed, which systems could read it, and whether other credentials were exposed alongside it. If the same M2M app credential was shared across systems, assess every system and API that depended on it before treating the incident as contained.

Reduce the chance that the next leak spreads
- Create separate M2M applications for separate systems, users, or businesses instead of sharing app keys.
- Request only the scopes each system needs. Kinde’s Management API guidance says requesting a subset of authorized scopes reduces exposure if a token is compromised. Kinde’s Management API guidance
- Keep access-token lifetimes short. Kinde documents a 24-hour (86,400-second) default and recommends not extending the lifetime beyond one day; the setting is configurable in application settings. Access-token lifetime guidance
- Log and monitor verification activity and unusual or failed authentication patterns, and rotate credentials when exposure is suspected.
