To make a YouTube 24/7 playlist stream open with a particular prerecorded video, put that video first in the playlist in your cloud playout service before you start or schedule the broadcast. For a one-time opening, use a dedicated playlist with the target video first—or as its only item. YouTube’s broadcast settings manage the live event and incoming feed; the cloud service’s playlist order determines which prerecorded file plays first.
Set the opening video before the stream starts
- Choose the exact file. Confirm the video is uploaded to the service’s library or available from a supported storage source.
- Create or edit the playlist. Move the video you want viewers to see first to position one. A dedicated playlist for a one-off opening helps avoid accidentally placing another file ahead of it.
- Choose the YouTube destination and configure the broadcast. Set the stream details and choose whether to start immediately or schedule it for later.
- Check the preview and status. Before relying on the opening, confirm the first item in the cloud service’s preview or status and in YouTube Live Control Room.
OneStream Live documents sequential playlist queueing, while Gyre says its playlist controls playback order and loops back to the beginning after the final file. Neither cited guide documents a universal start-at-item selector. OneStream Live’s 24-hour stream guide and its playlist guide describe the workflow and sequence controls.

Can you change the first video after the stream is live?
Do not assume that editing a live playlist will immediately seek to a chosen item. Gyre says a playlist can be changed while a stream is running, but its documentation does not specify whether an edit triggers an immediate jump, takes effect after the current file, or follows another transition rule. Check the current service interface and verify the result in preview before depending on it. If the opening must be reliable, set the order before starting.

OneStream Live
OneStream Live’s help article, last updated September 3, 2026, describes 24/7 streaming to YouTube as an Enterprise-plan feature, with a maximum duration of 30 days. Its documented flow is to choose Create and 24-hour Stream, add videos from a device, OneStream storage, Google Drive, or Dropbox, select the YouTube channel, enter stream details, set a duration and start time, then schedule the broadcast. Its separate playlist guide says users can queue videos in a specific sequence and lists playlist streaming on Professional and Enterprise plans; it does not describe a dedicated start-at-item control. Plan terms and interface labels can change, so confirm current details in OneStream’s help center before scheduling.

Gyre
Gyre describes a cloud workflow in which you upload files, arrange them in a looping playlist, connect a YouTube channel, and start or schedule the stream. Its playlist article says playback follows the playlist order and returns to the top after the last file. Those are vendor feature descriptions, not independent evidence of uptime or a guaranteed immediate jump to an arbitrary item.
Why YouTube’s live settings do not choose the playlist item
YouTube distinguishes the live broadcast—the event or video viewers watch—from the live stream, the incoming audio-video feed. The YouTube Live Streaming API documents creating, binding, previewing, and managing those resources; it does not select the first prerecorded file in a separate cloud playlist. That selection belongs to the playout service. See YouTube’s liveBroadcast resource documentation and its liveStreams resource documentation.

Google Cloud Live Stream API is also not the same thing as a prerecorded playlist scheduler: Google describes it as accepting live SRT or RTMP input and transcoding that signal into HLS or DASH outputs saved to Cloud Storage. Its overview does not describe scheduling uploaded video files as a playlist. Read the Google Cloud Live Stream API overview if you are evaluating a live-input transcoding pipeline.

When HLS settings matter—and when they do not
YouTube’s HLS ingestion guide is relevant when an encoder sends HLS directly to YouTube. It specifies 1–4 second segments, TS format, a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, HTTPS POST/PUT, and no encryption other than HTTPS. HLS has higher latency than a continuous RTMP stream because it sends segments. These are encoder-ingestion details; a cloud playlist service may manage them for you. Follow the service’s instructions rather than applying these settings to a service that handles ingestion internally. YouTube’s HLS ingestion guide has the protocol requirements.

Before you schedule: practical checks
- Confirm the desired video is available in the cloud service and is the first playlist entry.
- For a one-off opening, consider a dedicated playlist rather than reordering a larger rotation you still need.
- Check the selected YouTube channel, start time, duration, and current plan requirements in the service.
- Use the service preview or status and YouTube Live Control Room to verify the result before treating the setup as correct.
- For edits after launch, establish how the service applies playlist changes; an editable playlist does not by itself establish immediate seeking.
- Make sure you have the rights needed to stream the video. YouTube’s copyright and monetization rules still apply to prerecorded material.
