To start a charity livestream on YouTube, first check whether your channel can use YouTube Giving and whether the nonprofit you want to support is listed. Then create a fundraiser in YouTube Studio, attach it to a scheduled livestream, test the broadcast, and tell viewers where to find the Donate button. If native fundraising is unavailable, you can link to a separate third-party fundraising page, but it will not be YouTube’s native Donate button.
Check whether your channel can use YouTube Giving
Before planning around a native Donate button, open YouTube Studio and check Earn > Giving. YouTube’s general eligibility criteria include a supported location, at least 10,000 subscribers, membership in the YouTube Partner Program, and a channel that is not designated Made for Kids. YouTube notes that some channels outside those criteria may still see access, so the Giving tab is the practical check for your account. YouTube does not state a publication year for these Help-page requirements.

Live streaming has separate requirements: the channel must be verified, its owner must be at least 16, and it must not have live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Check YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and restrictions before scheduling the event.

YouTube Giving fundraiser setup is listed for creators based in Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Bolivia, Canada, Colombia, Croatia, Estonia, France, Germany, Ghana, Hong Kong, Iceland, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Kuwait, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Mexico, Montenegro, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Puerto Rico, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Availability can change; confirm it in Studio and on YouTube’s YouTube Giving Help page.

Confirm the nonprofit is eligible
Search for the organization in YouTube Giving while creating the fundraiser. The native program currently supports eligible US-registered 501(c)(3) public charities. A charity must be requested by a creator, belong to Google for Nonprofits, opt in to online fundraising through GuideStar, and comply with YouTube’s policies. Private foundations are not currently supported.
If the charity is missing, it may not meet those conditions or may not have opted in. YouTube says a request to add a qualifying nonprofit can take up to five business days. See the Google for Nonprofits guidance on YouTube Giving for program details.

Create the fundraiser and attach your livestream
- Open YouTube Studio. Select Earn, then Giving, and choose Get started and Create a fundraiser.
- Choose the nonprofit. Search for and select the eligible organization you confirmed.
- Fill in fundraiser details. Add a title and description, invite collaborators if relevant, and optionally set a fundraising goal and duration.
- Attach the scheduled livestream. Select the event that should carry the Donate button. You can also start fundraiser setup in Live Control Room under Advanced Settings.
- Publish and check the dates. The fundraiser’s start date determines when the Donate button appears. Confirm that the date and scheduled stream match your event plan.

Choose a broadcast setup for your event
YouTube supports mobile, webcam, encoder, and console streaming. Choose based on where the event takes place and how much production control it needs; you do not need expensive equipment to begin. YouTube Help says, “You do not need expensive equipment, what you have at hand will do.”

An optional microphone can improve audio for a computer or encoder broadcast, but it is not required. For network planning, check your upload capacity rather than relying on download speed. Test the stream and explain how to donate
- Run a test broadcast. Check video, audio, internet stability, and any overlays or presentation material before the event.
- Check Live Control Room. Confirm the preview is visible and the scheduled event can be reached from your channel and watch pages.
- Check on a phone. Make sure the stream and donation control are accessible on mobile. For live chat donations, mobile viewers need portrait mode to see chat.
- Tell viewers where to look. With live chat enabled, viewers can donate in chat. On a stream without live chat, the Donate button appears by or below the video.
- Explain public display. Viewers can choose whether a live chat donation is public. A public donation may show the donor’s account name and amount; if it is not public, the amount appears as “Anonymous.”

How donations are collected and what donors should know
YouTube says 100% of a contribution goes to the nonprofit and YouTube pays transaction fees. Google works with Network for Good to collect and distribute donations. Once collected, Network for Good has exclusive legal control of the funds; if it cannot distribute them to the designated nonprofit, YouTube’s FAQ says an alternate qualifying nonprofit may be selected. The creator does not personally receive or control these donations.

If YouTube Giving is unavailable
If you cannot use native YouTube Giving or your preferred cause is not listed, Google for Nonprofits suggests linking an approved third-party fundraising site in an end screen and names GoFundMe and JustGiving as examples. That link is separate from YouTube’s native Donate button. Before sharing an external page, verify the charity and destination, fees, receipt arrangements, and any disclosure requirements that apply to your audience.
