Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Check three things separately: whether the listing accurately describes the product, whether you trust the seller offering it, and whether there is evidence the item may be counterfeit. A mismatch or other warning sign is a reason to verify and, if needed, report—not proof on its own. Compare the exact product and claims with the manufacturer’s official information, and use Amazon’s reporting route if something still looks wrong.
What you are trying to verify
“Misleading” and “counterfeit” are not interchangeable. A listing can contain inaccurate details or unclear claims without establishing that the item itself is fake. Conversely, a convincing-looking listing does not prove that a delivered item is genuine. Treat each concern as a question to investigate rather than a verdict based on one clue.

- Product accuracy: Does the listing describe the product, model, variant, and buyer-relevant claims accurately?
- Seller confidence: Are you comfortable with the seller offering this item? Seller information is worth reviewing, but it does not authenticate a particular unit.
- Authenticity: Is there specific evidence that the item may not be genuine, such as a discrepancy that the manufacturer or Amazon can assess?
Compare the offer with the manufacturer’s information
Open the maker’s official product page or support material and compare it with the exact Amazon offer—not just the broad product name. Focus on the model or variant and the claims that matter to your purchase. If something does not match, ask the manufacturer or its support channel whether the difference is expected. A discrepancy warrants a closer look, but it does not by itself prove counterfeiting.

There is no universal checklist that reliably authenticates every product category. Packaging, serial numbers, and compatibility details vary by product, so use the manufacturer’s own guidance rather than applying a generic test. Price, reviews, seller ratings, and fulfillment status may inform a buying decision, but none establishes that an individual unit is authentic.

Know what Amazon’s Transparency scan can—and cannot—tell you
Amazon Transparency is a serialization program for products enrolled by participating brands. For products using Amazon-issued Transparency codes, customers can scan a code with the Amazon Shopping app or Transparency app to check the code and its association with the product. The feature applies only when the product participates and has a supported code; a generic barcode or the presence or absence of a badge is not a universal authenticity test. Some customer-facing scan features do not apply when a brand connects existing serial codes. See Amazon’s Transparency information for program details.
Report a suspicious product or seller to Amazon
Amazon’s customer-facing reporting route is available from a product page. Menu wording can change, but the current instructions are:
Rank #2
- Keep track of everything from attendance to test scores
- Spiral bound
- Measures 8-1/2" x 11"
- Sign in to Amazon and open the product page for the listing you want to flag.
- Select “Report an issue with this product or seller.”
- Choose “This product or content is illegal, unsafe or suspicious” or “I have an issue with a Seller.”
- Provide the relevant details and submit the report.
You can also contact Customer Service, go to “Help with something else”, and select “Report Something Suspicious.” Amazon’s Report Suspicious Activity page describes these options. Include the specific mismatch or concern rather than presenting a hunch as a confirmed counterfeit.
If the item you received seems wrong
Keep a record of the listing and order details, along with the discrepancy you observed. Then use Amazon’s order or Customer Service route to explain what does not match. If a product-specific check is needed, consult the manufacturer’s official support information. A suspicious listing report and a request for help with an order are related but distinct steps.

Amazon’s brand-protection tools are not consumer authenticity checkers
Project Zero
Project Zero is a program for eligible rights holders enrolled in Amazon Brand Registry, not a tool for shoppers to verify any listing. Its self-service removal tool is restricted to counterfeit removals. Amazon recommends that participating brands make a test buy to confirm a suspected counterfeit before using that tool. Details are on Amazon’s Project Zero page.
Report a Violation and Report Abuse
Report a Violation is a rights-owner route for potential intellectual-property infringement. Report Abuse can address inaccurate listing information and policy issues. These routes serve different purposes from the customer report option on a product page; Amazon’s Brand Registry brand-protection information describes the rights-owner tools.

Amazon said that in 2023 it invested more than $1.2 billion and employed more than 15,000 people to prevent counterfeit, fraud, and other abuse, and that it identified, seized, and appropriately disposed of more than 7 million counterfeit products worldwide. Amazon also reported that proactive controls blocked more than 99% of suspected infringing listings before a brand had to identify and report them. These are Amazon’s company-reported 2023 figures, not independent estimates or a measure of the odds that a particular listing is counterfeit. The figures and their context appear in Amazon’s account of how it prevents counterfeit, fraud, and other abuse.
