Before paying, verify the exact card and its identifying details, contact the responsible board maker about model and warranty questions, and—if possible—test the card you will actually receive. Treat a matching sticker, seller screenshot, software readout, or warranty answer as supporting evidence, not proof by itself.
Start with the exact card, not the box
Ask the seller for the add-in-board maker and complete model name or part number, plus clear photos of the card itself, including its label and serial number. Compare the card with the manufacturer’s official product materials. A box photo alone cannot establish that the card inside is the one pictured.

NVIDIA’s documentation distinguishes two identifiers: the serial number shown by its management interface matches the serial printed on the board, while the GPU UUID is an immutable identifier that does not correspond to a physical board label. That distinction helps you compare records, but neither a plausible serial nor a matching label alone proves the silicon is genuine. See NVIDIA’s serial-number documentation and its GPU UUID documentation.
Use a practical verification sequence
- Get identifying details. Request the exact partner model, the card’s own label and serial, and photos detailed enough to compare with the maker’s official model information.
- Compare the records. Check that the model and serial on the physical card are consistent with the seller’s invoice, box, and other records. If details conflict or the seller cannot provide a clear explanation, pause rather than assuming the discrepancy is harmless.
- Ask the board partner. Contact the card maker through its official support channel with the model and serial. Ask whether it recognizes the model and what warranty or service route applies. NVIDIA says partner-purchased GeForce cards are warranted by the add-in-board partner; Founders Edition cards are covered directly by NVIDIA.
- Test the actual card where possible. For an in-person purchase, ask to see the card running in a working system and inspect what the installed hardware reports. Treat software output as corroboration only: a model name or other readout is not, by itself, a cryptographic authenticity check.
- Secure the transaction. Check the seller’s history, invoice or proof of purchase, return terms, and payment protections. Preserve the listing, messages, photos, and receipt. Prefer a transaction that lets you inspect the exact card before payment or return it if it does not match the description.
This is a practical evidence hierarchy, not an NVIDIA scoring system: consistent card and model details, a useful response from the responsible maker, observed behavior of the actual card, and a credible route to return or service it are more reassuring together than any one signal alone.

Know who handles warranty—and check the exact terms
NVIDIA’s EU Product Warranties FAQ says GeForce cards purchased through NVIDIA partners are warranted by the partner, naming ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte, EVGA, and others; Founders Edition cards are covered directly by NVIDIA. Start with the card’s actual maker and check the rules for your location and product: NVIDIA’s EU Product Warranties FAQ.
Warranty duration is not universal. NVIDIA’s US graphics-card warranty page lists a three-year period for covered new purchases within that page’s stated terms, but it also says coverage does not extend to someone who acquires a warranted product on a used basis. The page was last updated July 19, 2016, so do not treat it as a blanket current warranty for every GeForce model or partner card. Confirm the terms for the exact model, seller, purchase status, and region with the responsible warrantor: NVIDIA’s US graphics-card warranty page.

Why NVIDIA attestation is not a retail GeForce check
NVIDIA describes attestation as cryptographic verification of hardware and software integrity for secure-computing deployments. Its documented process gathers evidence, checks a certificate chain and GPU or switch information, obtains signed reference measurements, and compares the evidence through a local verifier or NVIDIA Remote Attestation Service. This is a specialized workflow for supported deployments, not a serial lookup or ordinary driver feature for a consumer buying a GeForce card. See NVIDIA’s attestation overview, evidence collection guide, and architecture guide.
NVIDIA’s white paper Confidential Compute on NVIDIA Hopper H100 says that verifying a device certificate against NVIDIA’s Certificate Authority “will verify the device was manufactured by NVIDIA.” That statement concerns H100 device identity certificates in a confidential-VM workflow, including device keys and certificate revocation; it should not be generalized into a universal authentication promise for retail GeForce cards. Read the H100 confidential-computing white paper.

When to walk away
Refusal of a reasonable inspection, generic or inconsistent photos, pressure to pay immediately, or missing purchase records are reasons to decline a risky transaction—not proof that the GPU is counterfeit. The official sources cited here do not establish a consumer list of visual counterfeit signs or a reliable single-tool diagnosis. Do not let an apparently plausible sticker or software screenshot substitute for a safe way to verify the card and seek recourse.
