Before you pay, verify the exact figure and release in the manufacturer’s official catalog, compare the listing with that release’s packaging and product details, and check the actual seller. No single seal, price, photo, or flaw proves that every figure is genuine or counterfeit.
Start by verifying the exact release
Search the manufacturer’s official product catalog using the figure’s maker, product line, character, series, and release name. Confirm that the item exists and that its release timing fits the listing. Good Smile Company warns that bootlegs can borrow real brand names or use altered character names, so a convincing title alone is not proof. See Good Smile Company’s bootleg guidance.

Use the official entry for the specific release as your reference. Packaging, logos, and anti-counterfeit markings can change between manufacturers and production periods; comparing an item with a different version can produce false alarms.
Compare the listing with the official reference
Check the box and figure against official images and product information for the same release. Look for discrepancies across several areas rather than treating one odd detail as conclusive.
#1 Best Overall
- Unique Anime Style Design:This set includes 4 different cute girl characters with vibrant colors, detailed expressions, and playful sitting poses, bringing a lively anime-inspired vibe to your space.
- Ideal Display Size:Each figure measures approximately 5.1–5.9 inches (13–15 cm), perfectly sized for desks, shelves, display cabinets, or collector showcases.
- Durable PVC Material:Made of high-quality PVC material with smooth surfaces and fine craftsmanship, designed for long-term display without easy fading.
- Cute Sitting Pose for Easy Placement:Designed in a sitting position, these figures can be placed on edges such as shelves, desks, or cabinets, adding a fun and relaxed decorative touch.
- Great Gift & Collectible Choice:Suitable for anime figure collectors, hobby enthusiasts, or as a creative gift for birthdays, holidays, or special occasions.
- Packaging and text: Check for unexpected box designs, misspellings, generic or oddly translated product names, pixelated artwork, or copyright and certification details that do not match the official reference.
- Maker and brand marks: Check whether the manufacturer and product-line marks fit that maker’s packaging guidance for the release. Good Smile says almost all its products carry company and brand logos on the packaging, while noting exceptions; this is Good Smile-specific guidance, not a rule for every figure. See Good Smile Company’s guidance.
- Figure details: Compare colors, sculpt, paint, and molding with official images. Noticeable differences may warrant more investigation, especially alongside packaging or seller concerns.
- Release-specific labels: Do not expect one universal hologram on every genuine figure. TAMASHII NATIONS says its packaging has carried a special “TAMASHII NATIONS QUALITY” anti-counterfeiting seal since 2023, with some exceptions; its page says products released from 2018 to 2023 used hologram stickers. These details apply to TAMASHII NATIONS products, not all makers. Check its current counterfeit-warning page for the relevant item.
Check who is selling the item and what the photos show
A marketplace’s name does not authenticate every listing on it. Good Smile cautions that official product photos can appear on a site that still ships a bootleg, and Anime Expo warns that large e-commerce sites do not guarantee every listing is licensed. Evaluate the named seller and listing individually.
- Check the seller’s identity, reviews, and how the item is being sold; do not assume the platform itself is the seller.
- If the listing uses only stock images or leaves out important details, ask for current photos of the actual box and figure.
- Compare those photos with the official reference for the exact release, including marks and details that may not appear in the listing’s headline image.
For fewer uncertainties, buy from the manufacturer’s own shop or a recognized official partner when available. Good Smile recommends its online shop and official partner shops; TAMASHII NATIONS provides official shop options and a store locator on its counterfeit-warning page.

Use price as a warning signal, not a verdict
Compare the asking price with the exact release and current offers for that item. An inexplicably low price deserves closer scrutiny, but price alone does not establish that an item is counterfeit. A high price is not proof of authenticity either. Consider price alongside the catalog match, item details, seller, and actual photos.
How to weigh the evidence
Confidence comes from several details lining up: the exact release exists in the maker’s catalog, its timing and packaging fit, the figure’s visible details match, and the seller and item photos are credible. Multiple unexplained discrepancies increase concern, but the manufacturer guidance cited here does not establish one universal test that proves authenticity for every anime figure.
