How to Spot AI-Generated Music on Streaming Services

Platform disclosures and song credits are the best starting points for identifying AI-generated music. Deezer’s playlist detector and artist-history checks can add context, but listening and detector scores alone cannot confirm a track’s origin.

Start with a platform’s AI labels and song credits, then check the artist’s public history. If those clues do not settle it, Deezer’s free playlist detector can scan playlists from supported services. Listening alone—and any single detector score—cannot reliably prove a track’s origin.

Check labels and credits first

Open the track or album page and look for an AI disclosure. Then open the song credits, where available, to see whether the creator or distributor has described an AI contribution. Treat these as evidence about what was disclosed, not a complete record of every tool used.

Deezer labels

Deezer says it labels albums containing tracks its system detects as AI-generated. It also says detected tracks remain available to play but are excluded from algorithmic recommendations and editorial playlists. The label describes Deezer’s own detection and does not guarantee that every AI-generated track on Deezer—or elsewhere—will be identified. Deezer’s June 2026 announcement describes its labeling and platform figures.

Spotify AI Persona badges and AI Credits

Spotify’s AI Persona badge concerns the artist identity: it signals that the identity may be AI-generated. It is not a detector for how a particular song was made. Spotify says the badge is “about the artist’s public identity, not about how the music was made.” Spotify’s announcement explains the distinction.

Spotify AI Credits, by contrast, can identify disclosed AI contributions to a song, such as vocals, lyrics, or production. These credits depend on information supplied by artists, labels, or distributors. A missing credit does not establish that AI was not used. See Spotify’s AI Credits information.

Scan a playlist with Deezer’s detector

If the playlist is on another service, Deezer announced a free web-based detector that lets listeners select a streaming service, connect an account, scan playlists, and inspect results. Deezer said in June 2026 that the tool covered 20 commonly used services and was available in 27 languages; check the live interface for the current supported-service list. Deezer says a paid Deezer subscription is not required. This is a service-specific detection tool, not an independent guarantee that every track will be recognized. 2. Connect the account as prompted and select a playlist for scanning.
  3. Review the results as clues about detected tracks, not as definitive proof of authorship or production history.

Check the artist’s public history

When no platform label or credit answers the question, look for corroborating context: older public posts, linked social accounts, a consistent artist identity, real-world performances, and a coherent release history. Spotify says its verification review may consider concert dates, merchandise, and linked social accounts, while allowing artists who responsibly use AI if they present themselves authentically. Spotify’s artist verification explanation describes that approach.

A sparse profile can justify asking questions, but it does not prove the artist or music is synthetic. Likewise, a long-running online presence or live performance can support an artist’s credibility without establishing how a particular recording was made.

Understand what “AI-generated” means

Not all AI involvement means the same thing. YouTube’s music-partner guidance distinguishes fully generative content from partly generative work. A complete composition, instrumental performance, and vocals made from a prompt are examples of fully generated content; AI-generated arrangement layers or AI assistance with lyrics or melody followed by a person recording the audio are examples of partial use. YouTube’s music-partner guidance describes these metadata categories.

Spotify’s AI Persona label concerns the identity presented as the artist, while AI Credits concern disclosed contributions to a song. Those are separate questions from whether a track is fully or partly AI-generated.

Why sound and detector scores are not proof

Some AI tracks may sound polished, awkward, repetitive, or generic; none of those qualities establishes their origin. Lyrics are subjective evidence, and cover art can be misleading. Deezer’s head of research and development told the Associated Press that identifying AI music by listening is difficult and becoming harder as the technology improves. He also cautioned that older clues, such as distinctive vocal reverb, may stop being useful as models change. The Associated Press report discusses the limits of listening and detector tools.

Automated classifiers can find patterns that listeners may not hear, but results depend on the model, audio, and conditions. A paper on AI-music detection identifies audio manipulation and generalization to models absent from training as continuing challenges. High scores on selected datasets therefore should not be treated as certainty for every new model, compressed stream, remix, or edited file. The paper, “AI-Generated Music Detection and its Challenges,” outlines these limitations.

Deezer has reported 99.8% detection accuracy and fewer than one false positive per 10,000 human-made tracks for its own system. Those are company-reported performance figures, not an independent guarantee for every track or a measure of all detector tools. Deezer’s account of its system provides its stated figures.

How to describe an uncertain track

Use wording that matches the evidence. A platform label, creator statement, credible reporting, or song credit can support a specific claim; a detector result is best described with attribution and qualification. If clues conflict or no disclosure is available, say the track’s origin is unconfirmed rather than declaring it AI-generated.

  • Direct disclosure: identify what the platform or credit says, including whether it describes full generation or a specific AI contribution.
  • Detector result: name the tool and frame the result as a detection, not proof.
  • Indirect clues only: describe the clue without treating it as confirmation.
  • No conclusive evidence: state plainly that the origin is unknown.

What Deezer’s figures do—and do not—show

Deezer’s reported data illustrates activity on its own service, not the prevalence of AI music across the streaming industry. The company said it detected more than 13.4 million AI tracks in 2025. It also reported around 90,000 AI-generated deliveries per day and more than half of daily uploads at a peak in June 2026; those are Deezer uploads, not all services or the share of streams listeners hear. Deezer reported that fully AI-generated music accounted for 1–3% of streams on its platform and that up to 85% of streams on those tracks were identified as fraudulent in 2025. These are company claims about Deezer’s service and definitions. Deezer’s 2026 report gives its figures.

A separate Deezer-commissioned Ipsos survey in 2025 found that 97% of surveyed listeners could not distinguish fully AI-generated music from human-made music in a blind test. The survey included 9,000 people across eight countries and used two AI songs and one human-made song. That result describes the particular test, not every listener’s ability or every kind of music. Deezer’s survey announcement gives the study details.
