To assess whether a Nendoroid may be counterfeit, compare it with Good Smile Company’s official information for the exact figure and release. Check the box, figure and parts, and copyright marking on the base—but treat any mismatch as a reason to investigate, not proof on its own. Good Smile Company warns that bootlegs do not all share the same traits and may resemble genuine products.
Start with the exact figure and release
Find the official product information for the character and version you have, including whether it is an original release or a rerelease. Compare like with like: packaging can vary between releases, so a photo of a different version may not be a reliable reference. Good Smile Company’s Nendoroid bootleg notice links to product information for the specific figures featured in its examples.

Before buying, consider the seller and purchase channel. Good Smile Company reports counterfeit sales through online auctions, private sales and flea-market applications, and recommends buying from its online store or partner shops. Those venues are risk contexts, not proof that a particular listing is counterfeit.

Check the packaging against the official reference
Look for the manufacturer and brand logos, copyright statement, expected language and product-specific packaging details. Good Smile Company lists missing marks, unusual or incorrect Japanese text, and bulk or unpackaged sales among general warning signs. Its Nendoroid-specific examples also include missing foil stamping and a different box size. These details matter only in comparison with the expected package for that particular product and release.

Packaging can change on genuine products
Good Smile Company announced a gradual packaging redesign for Nendoroid and Nendoroid [Basic] products. Adoption varies by item, and rereleased products may use either the old or new design. So a different box design or size is not enough to call a figure counterfeit; first check whether it matches the release in question. The company said the new design can reduce plastic consumption by up to 84% compared with the original blister packaging design—a packaging claim, not a measure of counterfeit activity. Inspect the figure, its parts and the base
Compare the figure with official images and product-specific details. Examine how parts fit together, the shape and assembly of face or head parts, paint application, and the color or transparency of distinctive accessories. Check the base for the expected copyright marking. Good Smile Company’s examples describe differences in face-and-neck separation, head-part construction, accessory paint, lamp transparency or color, and missing copyright text on a base. These are clues tied to named figures, not universal tests.

Do not treat a label difference as a verdict
A missing or different license label does not establish that a figure is fake. Good Smile Company says some products have no label, some have the label printed on the packaging, and label designs can vary with release timing or distribution region. Consider the label alongside the exact product, release and other evidence.

Good Smile Company’s Nendoroid notice documents counterfeit examples for three named products. The details below describe those examples only; they are not a checklist that every bootleg will match.

Good Smile Company cautions: “Not all bootleg will match the characteristics described below, therefore, we cannot guarantee that there is no bootleg using a similar design to genuine products.” A close match does not certify authenticity, just as one difference does not prove a counterfeit.
