How Quordle guesses and clues work
The cited Quordle.me game page describes four simultaneous five-letter answers and nine total attempts. Its rules page says guesses must be valid five-letter English words and cannot be repeated; accepted words may differ between implementations. Each board evaluates a submitted guess independently.

On an individual board, green marks a letter in the correct position, yellow marks a letter that belongs in the answer but is in another position, and gray marks a letter absent from that answer. A result on one board does not automatically apply to the other three. Some interfaces show board-specific keyboard feedback in separate quadrants, but use the colors on each grid as your source of truth. Step-by-step strategy
1. Open with broad letter coverage
Choose a valid five-letter word with distinct, common letters. The first guess is mainly a probe: it should reveal useful information across the boards rather than gamble on solving one answer immediately. Prioritize letters likely to appear in ordinary words, and avoid using several opening guesses that test the same letters.
2. Record clues separately for all four boards
After the guess, keep four independent sets of constraints. For each board, note green letters and their fixed positions, yellow letters and the positions they cannot occupy, and gray letters that appear absent. Be cautious when a guess contains repeated letters: gray feedback can depend on whether another copy of that letter is present, so follow the game’s displayed clues rather than treating every gray tile as an unconditional exclusion.
A simple scratchpad can look like this:
- Board 1: fixed positions; present letters and excluded positions; absent letters.
- Board 2: fixed positions; present letters and excluded positions; absent letters.
- Board 3: fixed positions; present letters and excluded positions; absent letters.
- Board 4: fixed positions; present letters and excluded positions; absent letters.
Keeping the records separate prevents a common error: a letter gray on one grid may still be a candidate on another, while a yellow clue only constrains its own board.
3. Make each next guess answer a question
Before submitting, identify what you most need to learn. If several boards are still nearly blank, test useful, untried letters. If one board has a promising pattern, consider a word that fits it and also tests letters that could help elsewhere. Do not continue a memorized opening sequence after its letters or positions have become unhelpful.

For each board, check a possible answer against all known information: green positions must match, yellow letters must remain in the word but move to a different position, and absent letters should be excluded subject to repeated-letter feedback. A candidate should satisfy the entire board’s record, not just its most conspicuous green pattern.

5. Turn information into solved boards
As a board becomes constrained, use guesses that can plausibly complete it while still offering information to unsolved boards when practical. Solving an easier board can simplify your attention, but focusing on the most developed grid is a heuristic, not a guaranteed optimal strategy. Reassess after every set of colors.
6. Spend the remaining guesses deliberately
In the nine-attempt format, late guesses are scarce. Before submitting, check that the word either fits a live candidate pattern or tests a specific uncertainty that matters. Confirm it is accepted by the version you are playing; the cited rules require valid five-letter English words, but dictionaries can vary by implementation.

Treat these as optional examples, not proven best openers. The available source does not benchmark them against alternatives or show that they guarantee a solve. After the first feedback, adapt rather than automatically playing the second word in a pair.

- Information breadth: Does the word test several distinct, useful letters?
- Board progress: Does it fit one or more current patterns, or have a chance to solve a board?
- Guess cost: Is the information worth using one of the remaining attempts?
- Adaptability: Does the choice respond to the actual colors rather than follow a fixed sequence?
Why instructions may differ between Quordle versions
More than one Quordle-branded or Quordle-like implementation appears in search results. One cited FAQ says its version allows unlimited rounds, while another describes a nine-guess game. Those statements may refer to different implementations; they do not establish one universal schedule or mode. Do not assume daily play, unlimited rounds, a particular dictionary, or an identical interface unless the site you opened says so. For the nine-guess rules discussed here, consult the specific Quordle.me page rather than applying its details to every clone.
