Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTo simulcast a YouTube Live stream, send your encoder’s feed either to each destination directly or to a cloud relay that forwards one feed to several platforms. Direct outputs give you more control but require enough computer capacity and upload bandwidth for every output; a relay simplifies distribution and reduces the load on your computer. Before event day, enable YouTube Live, prepare each destination account, test the full route, and monitor YouTube’s stream health.
Choose direct outputs or a cloud relay
| Decision | Local encoder outputs | Cloud relay |
|---|---|---|
| Computer load | Your computer encodes and sends the outputs. Check its processor and encoder capacity. | You send one feed to the relay, which distributes it; YouTube describes this approach as reducing computer load. |
| Upload capacity | Plan for the combined target bitrate of all outputs, plus headroom. | Your connection sends one feed to the relay; the relay handles distribution. |
| Control and setup | More direct control; YouTube positions local encoding as an option for highest quality and setup control. | Simpler routing, but you must connect accounts or configure the relay. |
| Multiple destinations | Possible if your hardware, software, connection and destination requirements support it. | YouTube says relays can suit plans involving more than two channels. |
| Cost and limits | Depends on equipment, software and platform constraints. | A service may require a subscription; YouTube notes that free plans can have varying limits. Check current terms with the provider. |
This is YouTube’s guidance, not an independent performance test. Choose direct outputs if you want control and your computer and connection can manage them. Choose a relay if simpler routing or lower computer load matters more. YouTube’s guide covers both approaches at Stream across platforms.

Prepare YouTube and each destination
- Enable YouTube Live in advance. YouTube requires a verified channel with live streaming enabled and no live-streaming restriction within the previous 90 days. A first live-stream activation can take at least 24 hours after the initial request, so do not leave this until event day. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.
- Check every destination account. Make sure each account is active and in good standing. If your encoder or relay does not connect an account directly, obtain that platform’s RTMP server URL and stream key. Confirm the destination’s current requirements and whether it supports your planned format.
- Create or select the YouTube live event. Configure your encoder to send to the specific event, using its stream details rather than assuming a key or event is interchangeable. YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure extension to RTMP, for delivery when supported.
- Select a distribution method. For direct outputs, configure the encoder to send a separate output to each destination. For a relay, connect the destinations in the service and send your encoder’s feed to that service. Check current service availability and plan limits before relying on it.
For YouTube encoder settings, see Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
Calculate upload capacity for direct outputs
Add the target bitrates for all destinations. YouTube’s example uses 6 Mbps plus 4 Mbps, for a combined target of 10 Mbps; it recommends an upload speed of 1.5–2 times the combined target, or 15–20 Mbps in that example. Treat this as a recommendation, not a guarantee: shared connections and speed variation can affect stability.

For example, if your outputs have target bitrates of 6 Mbps and 4 Mbps, plan for the combined 10 Mbps target and use YouTube’s 15–20 Mbps upload recommendation as a starting point. Check the connection under realistic conditions, particularly if other people or devices share it.
The 1.5–2× guidance and example come from YouTube’s simulstreaming guidance. It applies to planning local multiple outputs; a cloud relay receives one feed from you and distributes it onward.

Configure, test and monitor the stream
- Match each destination’s settings. Check its current format, bitrate and stream-key requirements. Configure the YouTube output for the selected live event and use RTMPS when supported.
- Run a full pre-event test. Test the actual encoder-to-destination route, with audio and video motion representative of the event. Confirm that each destination receives the expected picture and sound; a static test image alone may not expose problems that appear with movement or audio.
- Check YouTube’s stream status. Review messages and stream health in YouTube Live Control Room before and during the event. Recheck the other destinations in their own dashboards or monitoring tools.
- Keep an eye on the connection and encoder. For direct outputs, watch for upload variation and computer strain as outputs run together. For a relay, verify that the incoming feed and each selected destination are connected.
Understand YouTube’s simultaneous stream limits
YouTube Help states limits of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key at the same time. These are simultaneous-use limits, not a recommendation to create that many outputs for one event. Check the current YouTube live-streaming guidance if your setup depends on the limits.
Example: send OBS through Restream
Restream documents a workflow in which you connect channels in Restream, choose Restream in OBS’s Stream settings, and start the broadcast from OBS. The service says it distributes the feed to selected platforms and offers integrated chat and analytics. Its YouTube integration page names Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitch as examples of other platforms it can pair with YouTube. These are vendor-described features and workflow, not independent testing; check current destination availability and plan limits before an event.

Troubleshoot common simulcasting problems
- YouTube Live is unavailable: Verify the channel and confirm live streaming has been enabled. If this is the first activation, allow at least 24 hours after requesting it.
- A destination does not receive video: Confirm the account is active and in good standing, and check the destination URL, stream key or account connection. Confirm that the destination is selected in the relay if you use one.
- The local stream is unstable: Compare actual upload capacity with the sum of target output bitrates and YouTube’s recommended 1.5–2× headroom. Account for other traffic on the connection and test again under realistic conditions.
- The computer struggles when adding outputs: Check processor and encoder capacity. A relay can reduce computer load by receiving one feed and distributing it, though it adds a service configuration step.
- YouTube reports a stream issue: Read the message and stream-health status in Live Control Room, check the encoder’s YouTube event and connection settings, then retest with representative audio and motion.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is for keeping an uploaded video live on YouTube 24/7, not for simulcasting a camera or sending a stream to multiple platforms. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops the video from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It is an option for prerecorded, always-on YouTube programming—not a substitute for a multi-platform relay for a live event.
