To silence most interruptions on a Samsung Galaxy, open Settings > Notifications > Do not disturb and turn it on. For a broader silent mode, choose Mute under Settings > Sounds and vibration. To stop alerts from just one app, open Settings > Notifications > App notifications and select it.
These options do different things: Do not disturb supports schedules and exceptions, Mute silences sound and vibration, and app settings target a particular app. Samsung menu names and layouts vary by model, software version, app version, and region; if a path looks different, search Settings for the feature name.

Choose the kind of quiet you need

Samsung describes Do not disturb as silencing calls and notifications except for allowed exceptions. Check those exceptions instead of assuming every call, alarm, or alert will be blocked. Samsung’s Do not disturb and sound-mode guidance explains the available controls.

- Open Settings.
- Tap Notifications.
- Tap Do not disturb and turn on the switch.
You can also access Do not disturb from Quick settings. Samsung redesigned the Notification and Quick settings panels starting with One UI 7, so the gesture or panel arrangement may differ from older instructions. Samsung’s Notification Panel guide covers panel access.

Schedule quiet hours
- Go to Settings > Notifications > Do not disturb.
- Tap Add schedule and give the schedule a name.
- Select the days and time period, then save.
- Check that the schedule’s switch is enabled.
Field names and options may differ by model or software version. If your phone does not show this route, search Settings for “Do not disturb.”
Allow selected calls, messages, apps, or sounds
In Do not disturb settings, review Calls and messages and the available exceptions for people, apps, alarms, and sounds. Samsung’s US instructions include options for calls from all callers, contacts, favorite contacts, or no one, as well as a repeat-caller setting. Which exceptions appear depends on the device and software version. Make sure the schedule and exception choices match the level of quiet you want.

Silence notifications from one app
- Open Settings > Notifications > App notifications.
- Select the app.
- Review whether it is allowed to send notifications and adjust the controls available for that app.
This changes that app’s notification behavior rather than silencing the whole phone. For an alert that is missing unexpectedly, also check the app’s notification categories and whether Samsung has marked it as deeply sleeping. Samsung’s notification troubleshooting guide lists these checks.

Mute sound and vibration
Open Settings > Sounds and vibration and choose Mute. Samsung lists Sound, Vibrate, and Mute as separate sound modes; Mute disables sound and vibration for calls and notifications.

Lower or restore notification sound
Go to Settings > Sounds and vibration > Volume and adjust Notifications. This is the setting to check when notifications appear but are too quiet or silent because their volume is low. It is separate from the app’s permission to notify.
Hide notification details or pop-ups
Silencing an alert and hiding it on screen are not the same. Do not disturb includes controls for notification visibility while the screen is on or off. In One UI 8, Samsung also documents Brief or Detailed pop-up styles and options to show or hide lock-screen content globally or for individual apps. These presentation settings affect what appears on screen; they do not disable an app’s notification permission. Samsung’s One UI 8 notification guide describes those controls.

If notifications are still silent or missing
- Check Do not disturb: It may be on manually or through an enabled schedule.
- Check the app: Confirm it is allowed to send notifications and review its notification categories.
- Check app sleep status: An app marked as deeply sleeping may not behave as expected for notifications.
- Check notification volume: A low Notifications volume can make an otherwise permitted alert inaudible.
- Check Mute all sounds: Look under Settings > Accessibility > Hearing enhancements. Samsung says this feature mutes media, notifications, system sounds, and the other person’s voice during calls.
- Check visibility settings: An alert may arrive but be hidden from the lock screen or suppressed by Do not disturb display controls.
Samsung notes that menu paths and names can vary by device model, software, application version, and region. If the labels above do not match your phone, search Settings for “Notifications” or “Do not disturb,” or consult support for your exact model.
