To show the lesson name inside your video, add a text or browser source to the scene in OBS and update it whenever the lesson changes. That on-screen graphic is separate from your YouTube live stream’s title: update YouTube metadata separately if you want the lesson name shown on the live event page too. Neither OBS nor YouTube automatically knows which lesson is playing; an operator or a custom workflow must supply the current title.
Choose where the lesson title should appear
There are two different titles to consider. An on-screen title is part of the video image viewers see in the stream. A YouTube metadata title labels the live event on YouTube. Changing one does not necessarily change the other, so update both if viewers need the lesson name in both places.

- Text in the video: Add an OBS text source to the scene. This is the direct option for a simple, manually updated label.
- A web-based graphic in the video: Add an OBS browser source. OBS describes this source as a way to “Add a web page to your scene.” The page must still get the correct lesson name from somewhere.
- A different layout for each lesson: Create separate OBS scenes and use Studio Mode to prepare the next scene before transitioning it to the live output.
- The YouTube event label: Edit the stream metadata in YouTube Studio. This changes platform-facing information, not the pixels in the video.
Add a lesson-title overlay in OBS
Use a text source for a manually updated title
- Open the scene used for the live program. In OBS, select the scene where the lesson video and other graphics appear. Add the title source to this scene so it appears in the outgoing composition.
- Add a text source. In the Sources panel, add a text source and enter the current lesson name. OBS’s source controls and labels can vary slightly by version and operating system.
- Position and style the label. Place it where it will not cover important lesson content. Choose readable text size, contrast, and a background or outline if needed. Check the overlay against the actual lesson image rather than only against a blank canvas.
- Check the live composition. Confirm that the title is visible in the program output and remains legible when the underlying video changes. If you use OBS Studio Mode, make sure you are checking the live output rather than only the preview.
- Update it at each lesson change. Change the text source when the next lesson begins. OBS provides the source for displaying the text; the operator or a separate workflow is responsible for changing it.
Use a browser source for a web-maintained title card
- Prepare a page that displays the lesson title. The page needs a reliable way to know the current lesson, such as a person updating it or a custom integration connected to your schedule.
- Add a Browser source to the OBS scene. Point it to the title page and set its dimensions to fit the graphic in your composition.
- Position and verify the source. Place the browser source where the title should appear, then confirm that the page renders and displays the correct lesson in the OBS output.
- Define who updates the page. A browser source displays a page; it does not by itself read your timetable or infer which lesson is playing. Test the page’s update process at lesson transitions before relying on it unattended.
When lessons need different layouts
If only the lesson name changes, keep one title source in the scene and update that source. If lessons need different visual layouts, create a scene for each layout. OBS Studio Mode lets an operator prepare the next scene and transition it to the live output; it does not determine the next lesson from a schedule.

For either approach, assign responsibility for the transition. A person can change the text or switch scenes, or a custom workflow can do so if you build and maintain one. The official OBS documentation describes sources and scene controls, but does not establish a built-in connection from a lesson timetable to an overlay.

Update the YouTube live event title separately
To change the title shown on YouTube, edit the stream’s metadata in YouTube Studio through the stream settings or while scheduling the stream. This is distinct from the OBS composition: editing YouTube’s event title does not put text into the video image.
The YouTube Live Streaming API is another route for managing broadcast metadata, including a broadcast title, but it requires authorization and developer work. A schedule-to-metadata connection—and any separate schedule-to-overlay connection—would need its own implementation. The official documentation does not describe a turnkey lesson timetable integration.

Make lesson transitions reliable
- Keep a single, agreed source of truth for the current lesson name, such as the operator’s schedule or the page used by the browser source.
- Decide whether a transition requires changing overlay text, switching scenes, changing YouTube metadata, or some combination of these.
- Test a complete transition, including the new lesson image, overlay, and any YouTube event details that should change.
- If the stream is unattended, do not assume that a visible title will update automatically. Use a workflow that explicitly changes the title and verify that workflow before relying on it.
Troubleshooting a wrong or missing title
The title is not visible in the video
Check that the text or browser source is included in the scene being sent to the live output, is positioned within the canvas, and is not hidden behind another source. Check the program output, not only the preview.

The YouTube event has the old title
Update the stream metadata in YouTube Studio. A change to the OBS overlay affects the video image, not the YouTube event details.
The next scene is ready, but viewers still see the previous lesson
In Studio Mode, prepare the intended next scene and then transition it to live output. A preview change alone is not the same as changing the live program.

Or let it run in the cloud
If your education stream uses uploaded lesson recordings, StreamNeo can keep a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos without leaving a computer or home internet connection running. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. For the lesson title itself, prepare the recording or graphic with the title you want viewers to see, or keep using a separate overlay workflow; StreamNeo does not establish an automatic timetable-to-overlay feature.
