The mirroring features described by TV makers generally send a phone or computer screen to a TV, not one TV’s picture to another. To show the same program on two TVs, use a separate HDMI source—such as a streaming box, receiver, or computer—and distribute that source to both displays.
First, identify what is playing the program
The right connection depends on the source. A TV’s built-in apps run inside that TV; a device connected to its HDMI input follows a separate signal path. Connecting something to a TV’s HDMI input does not make the TV’s built-in video available as an HDMI output.

- Built-in TV app: The TV generates the picture itself. The manufacturer guidance reviewed does not establish a general feature for sending that picture directly to a second TV.
- Separate HDMI device: A streaming box, receiver, console, or computer can send its HDMI output through distribution equipment to two TVs.
- Phone or computer screen: Compatible casting and mirroring features typically send content from that device to a TV. This is not the same as mirroring TV-to-TV.
Choose the signal path that fits
| What you want to do | How to connect it | Key conditions |
|---|---|---|
| Mirror a phone to a TV | Use a method supported by both devices, such as Smart View, AirPlay, Miracast, or Google Cast. | Check the exact models and whether you want full-screen mirroring or app casting. Requirements vary by feature. |
| Cast content from a phone app | Use the app’s Cast or sharing function with a compatible TV or receiver. | For Google Cast, the sender and receiver must be on the same Wi-Fi network. See Google’s app-casting instructions. |
| Show one external HDMI source on two TVs | Connect the source’s HDMI output to suitable distribution equipment, then connect its outputs to each TV’s HDMI input. | Check resolution, refresh rate, audio, copy-protection support, and the equipment’s input/output direction. |
| Send an external HDMI source wirelessly | Connect the source to a compatible HDMI transmitter and the second TV to its receiver. | Check the kit’s supported formats, compatibility, and practical range. These vary by product. |
| Show a TV’s built-in app on another TV | No general direct TV-to-TV method is established by the manufacturer guidance reviewed. | If the same service is available on a separate streaming device, you can route that device’s HDMI output instead. App rights or simultaneous-stream limits may apply. |
How to show an HDMI source on two TVs
Use a splitter or another suitable HDMI distribution device for a wired setup. The signal should travel from the source’s HDMI output, through the distribution equipment, and into each TV’s HDMI input. A TV-to-TV HDMI cable alone is not the solution: the guidance reviewed does not describe a TV’s HDMI input as an output for its built-in apps.
- Identify the separate device playing the content and locate its HDMI output.
- Choose distribution equipment that accepts that source and supports the resolution, refresh rate, audio format, and copy protection your setup needs.
- Connect the source output to the distribution device’s input, then connect its outputs to the TVs’ HDMI inputs.
- Select the correct HDMI input on each TV. If the picture or sound fails, check the equipment’s specifications and each connection’s direction.
For a wireless HDMI path, use a transmitter and receiver designed to work together: connect the source to the transmitter and the receiver’s HDMI output to the second TV. Epson’s WirelessHD setup instructions illustrate this source-to-display arrangement. They do not establish a universal wireless range or show that a TV’s built-in apps can be sent through its HDMI input.

What phone-to-TV mirroring support does—and doesn’t—mean
Google Cast
Google’s setup guidance calls for a compatible display, power, secure Wi-Fi, and a compatible phone or tablet. Availability and performance can depend on the device, network, and area. App casting is from a supported app or device to a Cast-compatible display; it does not turn the receiving TV into a video source for another TV.
Samsung Smart View and SmartThings
Samsung describes Smart View and SmartThings for mirroring a Samsung mobile device to a Samsung TV. Its support guide also discusses HDMI adapters as a wired phone-to-TV option. It does not document this as a TV-to-TV function. Samsung identifies network mismatch, mirroring not being enabled at both ends, and a missing TV permission as possible reasons a device may not connect.

LG screen sharing
LG documents smartphone-to-TV screen sharing and AirPlay for supported iPhones. Its wireless mirroring guidance and Miracast and MHL information make clear that support depends on the model and device.

Sony’s compatibility guide says functions vary by TV model. It also says Google TV models released after 2020 do not support the Screen mirroring function, while other methods may be available depending on the model. That limitation should not be generalized to every Sony TV or every wireless protocol.

Check compatibility before buying equipment
- Write down both TV model numbers and identify whether playback comes from a built-in app or a separate device.
- For built-in apps, look for documentation that explicitly names the intended sender and receiver roles; phone-to-TV support alone does not establish TV-to-TV output.
- For casting, confirm the sending device, app, and receiving TV or receiver support the same method. For Google Cast, put the sender and receiver on the same Wi-Fi network.
- For HDMI distribution, verify input/output direction and the supported resolution, refresh rate, audio, and copy-protection formats for the equipment and both TVs.
- For wireless HDMI, check the particular kit’s compatibility and operating limits rather than assuming a specific range or format.
Troubleshoot a device that does not appear
- Confirm that the exact TV and sending device support the same mirroring or casting method.
- Check that the receiving feature is enabled, the devices meet the method’s network requirements, and any TV permission prompt has been accepted.
- For Google Cast, make sure the phone or tablet and Cast device are on the same Wi-Fi network, and confirm the app supports Cast.
- For HDMI distribution, trace the signal from the source’s HDMI output through the equipment to each TV’s HDMI input. Recheck the selected inputs and equipment specifications.
- Consult the support page for the exact TV model. Feature availability and requirements can differ across models and software.
