To show the current song or video title on a YouTube Live loop, add the text to the scene in your streaming encoder before it reaches YouTube. In OBS, use a Text Source for a title you update yourself, or a Browser Source for a compatible overlay that can read the active item. Then verify the overlay in YouTube Live Control Room and in the actual stream. A stream title, description, chat message, or YouTube chapter is not the same as text over the live picture.
Choose how the title will update

OBS describes a Browser Source as a way to add a web page to a scene, and Text Sources as customizable text, including text from a file. YouTube’s own break-overlay setup demonstrates a similar browser-source workflow: copy the overlay URL from Live Control Room, add a Browser Source in the encoder, paste the URL, and set its dimensions to the stream resolution. That feature is an away-slate overlay, not a ready-made now-playing tool; YouTube also cautions that encoder support varies. See YouTube’s break-overlay instructions.

Set up a manual title in OBS
- Open the OBS scene used for the YouTube Live output.
- Choose Sources → + → Text and add a Text Source. Enter a short title, and add the artist or video creator on a second line if useful.
- Place and size the text over the loop in the scene preview. Keep it legible against the video and clear of important picture content.
- When the loop moves to a new item, edit the Text Source yourself. A manual label will not change at the loop boundary unless you or a supported workflow changes it.
Set up an automatic title with a Browser Source
- Choose an overlay that explicitly supports the player or playlist that supplies your loop’s active item. Check how it reads the title and whether its playback source is compatible with your setup.
- In the OBS scene, choose Sources → + → Browser, enter the overlay URL supplied by its provider, and set the source dimensions and position to match your scene.
- Check that the overlay can see the current title and changes when the next item begins. Do not assume the YouTube page title or an API supplies the active item for your particular loop.
- Keep a manual fallback title ready in case the overlay, browser source, metadata access, or player stops updating.
A third-party OBS resource, Music on stream, describes support for YouTube chapters and video-description playlists as title inputs, alongside other services. Its listing says it was last updated on 2025-09-18. Treat it as a third-party option; confirm current maintenance, compatibility, and the inputs it supports before relying on it.

Test that viewers see the right title
- Start a private or unlisted test stream when possible. YouTube recommends trying a test live stream and checking the preview before starting a broadcast. See YouTube’s encoder guide.
- Check the Live Control Room preview to confirm the text appears in the outgoing picture, not just in OBS.
- Watch the actual stream from a separate viewer session. Confirm the title is legible and changes at the correct loop boundaries.
- If automatic updates fail, use the manual fallback while you diagnose the overlay’s access to playback state or metadata.
Title overlays do not grant music rights
Showing a song title does not give you permission to broadcast the recording. YouTube says live streams are scanned for third-party content; it may replace a stream with a placeholder image and warn the creator to stop, and continued use can lead to interruption or termination. Even with a license, a rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Review YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.

Do not treat Spotify metadata access as authorization to broadcast Spotify audio. Spotify’s current-playing endpoint documentation says the Spotify Platform cannot be used for non-interactive broadcasting and restricts synchronizing sound recordings with visual media. Confirm the current terms and that you have the necessary rights before building a workflow around Spotify metadata or audio: Spotify for Developers: Get the User’s Currently Playing Track.
