To show formulas across a Google Sheets worksheet on a computer, press Ctrl + ~. To reveal worksheet gridlines, use View > Show > Gridlines. These are separate controls: formula view changes what cells display, while gridlines affect the worksheet’s on-screen appearance. Printing has its own settings.
Show every formula in the sheet
- Open the spreadsheet in Google Sheets on a computer.
- Press Ctrl + ~ to display formulas instead of their calculated results. Google lists this shortcut for PC, Mac, and Chromebook in its keyboard shortcuts reference.
- Press the same shortcut again to return to the usual results view. This is the practical toggle behavior of the command.
Some keyboard shortcuts may vary by language or keyboard layout. If this combination does not work, open the shortcut list with Ctrl + / on PC or Chromebook, or ⌘ + / on Mac. You can also use the tool finder with Alt + / on PC or Chromebook, or Option + / on Mac, and search for the command.

Inspect one formula without changing the whole sheet
Select the cell containing the formula and read it in the formula bar. Google’s formula help explains that selecting a completed formula highlights the cells it references. If the expression is difficult to read, drag the lower edge of the formula bar to resize it.

- In the sheet, open View > Show > Gridlines.
- Make sure Gridlines is checked to show the worksheet lines. Select it again to hide them.

If the lines still seem to be missing
Check whether you are looking for gridlines or cell borders. Gridlines are worksheet display guides; borders are formatting applied to selected cells. If the gridline setting is on but lines are difficult to see, borders or other formatting may affect their appearance. Avoid removing borders unless you have confirmed they are unwanted, because that changes the sheet’s styling.
Show gridlines in a printed sheet
- Open File > Print.
- Choose whether to print the current sheet, the workbook, or selected cells in the print workflow described in Google’s printing help.
- Review the print-formatting controls for a separate Show Gridlines option. The exact label is reported in community guidance and may change with the interface.
The worksheet’s on-screen gridline setting does not by itself determine print output. If you need lines across an otherwise blank area, community guidance suggests selecting the cells you want included; the result can depend on the print configuration.

Keep worksheet and chart gridlines distinct
Worksheet gridlines and chart gridlines are different features. Chart lines are adjusted in the chart editor’s customization options, as described in Google’s chart editing help. Changing chart gridlines does not restore cell lines across the spreadsheet.
