To show formulas in every cell on the current worksheet, press Ctrl+` (Ctrl plus the grave-accent key). Press it again to return to calculated results. You can also switch the view from Formulas > Show Formulas.
Show every formula in the worksheet
In desktop Excel, the shortcut toggles the current worksheet between showing formula text in cells and showing each formula’s calculated result. It affects the worksheet, not just the selected cell. Microsoft documents the shortcut for Windows releases including Microsoft 365, Excel 2024, 2021, 2019, and 2016, and for Mac releases including Microsoft 365, Excel 2024, and 2021.

- Open the worksheet whose formulas you want to inspect.
- Press Ctrl+`. The grave-accent key is often near the upper-left of the keyboard; its position can vary by layout.
- To restore calculated results, press Ctrl+` again.

Use the ribbon if the shortcut is awkward
Choose Formulas > Show Formulas to turn formula display on or off without using the keyboard shortcut. This is useful when the grave-accent key is hard to locate or behaves differently on your keyboard.

What to expect on Mac and in Excel for the web
Excel for Mac
Microsoft documents Ctrl+` for Mac, but notes that keyboard shortcuts can vary with language and keyboard layout. The ribbon control is an alternative. The display setting applies to the current sheet, not a single selected cell.
Excel for the web
In Excel for the web, worksheet cells show calculated results while the formula bar shows the formula for the selected cell. Microsoft directs users to open the workbook in the desktop app to display formulas in cells and print them.

If formulas are not visible
- Check the display switch: use Formulas > Show Formulas to confirm formula display is enabled for the worksheet.
- Check protection: a protected sheet or workbook can affect formula visibility. If you have permission, unprotect it; a password or authorization may be required. See Microsoft’s guidance on displaying or hiding formulas.
