When the requirements are met, tap Share Password on your iPhone. You can also show the network’s QR code or copy its saved password for manual entry.
Before you share a Wi‑Fi password from your iPhone
- Your iPhone must be unlocked, connected to the Wi‑Fi network, and have Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth turned on.
- Both people must be signed in to an Apple Account and have the email address or phone number associated with the other person’s account saved in Contacts.
- Keep the devices close together. Apple says they need to be within Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth range.
- Turn off Personal Hotspot on either device if it is on.
- Apple recommends that both devices use the latest available iOS, iPadOS, or macOS version.
These requirements apply to the nearby Apple-device sharing prompt. For an overview, see Apple’s Wi‑Fi password sharing instructions.

How do I share my Wi‑Fi password from my iPhone?
- On the recipient’s iPhone, iPad, or Mac, open Wi‑Fi settings and select the network you want to share.
- Wait for the Wi‑Fi Password prompt to appear on your iPhone, which is already connected to that network.
- Tap Share Password. Tap Done if that option appears.
The recipient’s device joins the network without you having to read out or manually send the password. Apple’s iPhone User Guide covers the nearby sharing flow.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsCan I share Wi‑Fi with a QR code?
Yes. On your iPhone, open Wi‑Fi settings, open the network, and choose Show Network QR Code. The other person can scan the code to join. This is useful when sharing access with guests or when the nearby Apple-device prompt is not suitable. A printed guest Wi‑Fi sign with the QR code is optional; it is not needed for the automatic sharing flow.

How can I see or copy my saved Wi‑Fi password?
- Open the Passwords app.
- Tap Wi‑Fi, then select the network.
- Tap the Password field to view it. Tap Copy Password if you need to provide it for manual entry.
Manual entry is a useful fallback if the recipient cannot use the Apple-device prompt or it does not appear.
Why isn’t Share Password showing up?
Check the conditions that enable the prompt, then try again:

If the prompt still does not appear, Apple recommends restarting both devices and retrying. If that does not work, use the QR-code option or copy the saved password so the recipient can enter it manually.
Does sharing Wi‑Fi use Personal Hotspot?
No. Sharing access to a Wi‑Fi network and using Personal Hotspot are different. Personal Hotspot shares your iPhone’s cellular connection. Apple says an iPhone cannot join a Wi‑Fi network and then rebroadcast that connection to another device through its hotspot. See Apple’s guides to connecting iPhone to the internet and sharing an iPhone internet connection.

What happens to the password when you share it?
Apple describes the sharing mechanism as similar to AirDrop. The requesting device advertises its request over Bluetooth Low Energy; the sharing device checks the requester’s contact information, and the requester proves identity through a process similar to AirDrop before the passcode is sent. Apple also says organizations can restrict Wi‑Fi password sharing on devices or apps managed through a device-management service. This describes Apple’s mechanism, not a guarantee that sharing is risk-free. More detail is available in Apple’s Wi‑Fi password sharing security documentation.
