To share slides in a live stream, use your platform’s built-in presentation feature if it supports your deck; otherwise share the slide app’s tab or window. For a camera-plus-slides layout with more control, capture the slide window and webcam in OBS. Rehearse the stream output—not just what you see on your screen—so you can confirm slides advance and the audience sees the intended layout.
Choose the right way to present slides
| Method | Best for | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Built-in slides in the live studio | A straightforward deck and a one-monitor setup | May not support deck animations, audio, or video |
| Share a browser tab or application window | Showing a deck as it appears in Google Slides or PowerPoint, including supported effects | You need to select the right tab or window and manage the studio while presenting |
| OBS capture sources | Composing slides, camera, and other elements into a custom scene | Requires setup and testing; capture-source names and availability depend on your operating system and OBS version |
First check whether the platform you are streaming from offers a built-in slide tool. For example, StreamYard documents importing Google Slides or uploading presentation files, then putting the deck on stage. Its help pages also explain the limits of built-in presentations and the alternatives for showing a deck through screen sharing. StreamYard: Presenting Slides

Use built-in slides in StreamYard
- Open the StreamYard studio and select Present → Slides.
- Import a Google Slides deck by signing in to Google and granting access, or upload a local presentation file. StreamYard lists these supported upload formats: .pptx, .ppt, .pps, .ppsx, .odp, and .pdf.
- Wait for processing, add the presentation to the stage, and use the on-screen controls to present.
This avoids capturing another app and can be convenient on one monitor. The documented built-in presentation feature does not support animations, audio, or video within the deck. If those elements are essential, share the presentation app instead. StreamYard also says uploaded media presentations do not persist after you leave the studio, so you may need to upload them again for a later broadcast. StreamYard: Presenting Slides
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsShare Google Slides from a Chrome tab
- Open your deck in Google Slides, then open or join the StreamYard studio.
- In the studio, choose Present → Share Screen.
- Select the Chrome tab containing the deck. Start the slideshow in Google Slides, then add the shared tab to the stage if it is not already visible there.
- Advance slides with the spacebar, arrow keys, or a mouse click.
- If you need audio from the tab, enable the share-audio option in the browser’s screen-sharing prompt. StreamYard’s guidance says tab audio sharing is supported for Chrome tabs.
Choose the tab rather than the entire display when you want to keep unrelated desktop windows out of the stream. See StreamYard’s screen-sharing guide and its slides instructions for the documented workflow.

Share a PowerPoint presentation
- Open the deck in PowerPoint and start the slideshow from the beginning or from the current slide.
- In StreamYard, choose Present → Share Screen, then select the PowerPoint Slide Show window or the monitor showing the slideshow.
- Add the share to the stage if needed. Switch back to the slideshow window to advance slides.
With multiple monitors, StreamYard’s instructions say to disable Use Presenter View if needed so the slideshow appears on only one screen. Select the monitor that displays the audience-facing slides, not your notes. StreamYard: Presenting Slides
Show slides and your camera together
For a simple layout, add your camera and slide share to the live studio stage, then arrange them using the studio’s available layout controls. A second monitor makes this easier: keep the live studio and its controls on one screen while presenting from the other. With one monitor, you can still share a tab or window, but practise switching between the slideshow and studio so you do not accidentally show presenter notes, notifications, or the wrong app.

If you need finer control over the size and position of the camera and slides, OBS lets you build a scene from capture sources and a webcam. A display capture takes an entire monitor; a window capture targets an application window on supported configurations. Add the sources to a scene and arrange them to suit your presentation. OBS source names and availability vary by system: current documentation identifies macOS Screen Capture for macOS 13 or newer, while the older Display Capture source is available on Windows and on macOS through 12.6. Linux uses other capture paths. Check the current OBS documentation for your operating system and version before following a specific setup path. OBS Quick Start Guide · OBS capture sources
In OBS, add the slide capture and webcam as sources in the scene, configure audio, and check the composition before going live. The OBS Project’s Quick Start Guide says: “We strongly encourage running a test for a few minutes to make sure that there are no issues, rather than just jumping in to your first stream or recording.” OBS Quick Start Guide

Check what the livestream audience will see
A layout shown in a meeting window may not be the layout sent to a livestream. Zoom says its presenter layouts can show shared content and presenter video together in meetings or webinars, but those layouts are not supported in cloud recordings or live streaming. Confirm the actual output destination supports the arrangement you want, and check the stream itself before presenting. Zoom: Presenter layouts
- Confirm the intended slide—not notes, a file picker, or another window—is visible to the audience.
- Advance several slides and verify the controls or keyboard shortcuts work.
- Check that the camera does not cover important slide content and remains readable in the final layout.
- If the deck needs sound, verify that the stream receives it.
- Check the output on the platform or destination where viewers will watch, not only in your studio preview.
Troubleshoot common slide-sharing problems
| Problem | What to check |
|---|---|
| The stream shows the wrong screen or a blank area | Stop sharing and select the correct Chrome tab, PowerPoint window, or monitor. Confirm that the selected source is on the stage. |
| Slides advance on your computer but not in the stream | Return focus to the slideshow and try the spacebar, arrow keys, or a mouse click. Check that the audience-facing slideshow window—not Presenter View—is the shared source. |
| Animations, embedded audio, or video do not play in a built-in deck | Use screen sharing from PowerPoint or Google Slides; StreamYard’s built-in presentation feature documents these as unsupported. |
| Tab sound is missing | When sharing a Chrome tab, enable audio sharing in the browser’s share prompt, then check the stream output. |
| Your meeting layout differs from the livestream | Verify the output destination’s supported layouts. Zoom’s presenter layouts are not supported in its cloud recordings or live streaming. |
| OBS cannot capture the chosen source | Check the capture-source options for your operating system and OBS version; names and availability differ, particularly across macOS versions. |
| A previously uploaded StreamYard deck is missing in a later studio session | Upload it again; StreamYard says uploaded media presentations do not persist after leaving the studio. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep a prerecorded video live on YouTube around the clock rather than present a deck interactively, StreamNeo is a different workflow: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It streams the video as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it also attempts automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for uploaded videos to YouTube, not a live camera presentation. Start your free StreamNeo day.
