For slides, images, or a website, use your streaming studio’s share control and select the specific window or browser tab viewers need. In StreamYard, browser audio works only when you share a Chrome tab and enable Share audio. For video playback, use StreamYard’s video-sharing feature rather than screen sharing when possible. Before you go live, check that you have permission to use the media and that it complies with the destination platform’s rules.
Choose the right way to share
Most streaming studios let you share an entire screen, an application window, or a browser tab. Select the narrowest source that shows what viewers need: a window for a slide deck, for example, or a tab for a website. This avoids exposing unrelated desktop content and keeps the presentation focused.

Share slides, images, or a website
- Open the streaming studio’s present or share control.
- Select the application window containing your slides, or the browser tab containing the website.
- Add the share to the live layout and confirm that it appears as intended.
- Advance the slides or navigate the page while keeping an eye on the audience view.
A second monitor can make this easier by keeping the studio controls visible while you present. StreamYard says screen sharing works best with two monitors, but a second display is a convenience, not a requirement.

Share browser media with audio in StreamYard
- Open the media in a Chrome tab.
- In the StreamYard studio, select Present → Share screen → Chrome tab.
- Choose the tab playing the media and check Share audio.
- Start the share, confirm that the content appears in the layout, and adjust the shared-audio volume in the studio.
- If you plan to speak over the clip, test and balance the shared audio and microphone before the audience hears it.
These controls are specific to StreamYard. Other studios and operating systems may use different audio-routing controls. StreamYard does not support screen sharing on mobile devices.

Play a local video file in StreamYard
StreamYard recommends its video-sharing feature for video, because screen sharing is not optimized for video playback. Follow the platform’s video-sharing instructions for the preferred workflow.
As a fallback, StreamYard describes opening a new Chrome tab, dragging the local video file into that tab, and sharing the tab with audio enabled. Because this is a screen-share workaround rather than the preferred video workflow, check the picture and sound in the studio before using it live.

Check rights and destination rules before sharing
Only include media you own, have permission to use, or have verified is licensed for the live broadcast and any archived version. Permission to use a track or clip does not necessarily prevent automated enforcement by the destination platform.

YouTube says all live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in another live broadcast. A match can lead to a warning, a placeholder image, an interruption, or termination. YouTube also says a licensed channel may still have its stream interrupted unless the rights holder adds that channel to its Content ID allowlist. Check the current rules and any required allowlisting before broadcasting licensed material.

Prepare and troubleshoot before going live
- The audience cannot see the share: Confirm that you selected the intended window or tab and added it to the live layout. Check the audience preview rather than assuming the share is on air.
- Browser media is silent in StreamYard: Share a Chrome tab, check Share audio, and verify the studio’s shared-audio level. Screen audio is not supported for other share types in StreamYard.
- The video looks poor or behaves unexpectedly: Use StreamYard’s video-sharing feature instead of screen-sharing playback. Its screen share is not optimized for video.
- You cannot start screen sharing on a phone or tablet: StreamYard does not support screen sharing on mobile devices; use a supported desktop workflow.
- A licensed clip is interrupted on YouTube: Check the platform notice and contact the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting for your channel. A license by itself may not prevent interruption.
- Studio controls are hard to manage while presenting: Keep the studio and presentation visible on one display, or use a second monitor as a convenience.
