For a one-time handoff, use Send link, protect it with a password when appropriate, and set an expiry. For ongoing teamwork, use Add people on a dedicated folder and grant only the permissions each person needs. To collect files, use Receive files. Review and remove links or collaborators when access is no longer needed.
Choose the sharing method for the task
Koofr offers three distinct sharing options. The right one depends on whether someone needs to download, collaborate, or send files to you.

- Select the file or folder you want to share, then choose Send link in Koofr.
- Set link protection and expiry. In the sharing dialog, enable Protect link with password if available, and choose an expiry that gives the recipient enough time to download the files.
- Send the link only to its intended recipient. Where practical, deliver the password through a separate channel rather than alongside the link.
A public link behaves like a bearer credential: anyone who obtains it may be able to use it under its configured conditions. A password adds a barrier, but it does not establish who is using the link or prevent the recipient from forwarding it.

Password and plan limits
Koofr says custom public-link passwords are 6 to 16 characters and may contain letters and numbers. Setting a custom password is limited to paid accounts. Some potentially malicious file types may require password protection, and free accounts cannot publicly share executables and certain other commonly malicious files. Options can depend on the plan and current interface, so check the controls shown in your account. See Koofr’s password-protection help.
Choose an expiry that matches the handoff
Koofr lists expiry choices of one hour, one day, one week, never, or a custom date. Free accounts cannot create links without a time limit. Prefer the shortest period that still gives the recipient a reasonable chance to retrieve the files; avoid leaving a link active indefinitely when it is only needed once. Share a folder for collaboration
Choose Add people on a folder when recipients need continuing access. Review each person’s permissions rather than granting broad access by default. Koofr lists controls for commenting and labeling, modifying files, creating download or upload links, and managing the share.

Review links and remove access when it ends
Use Koofr’s Links area to inspect public upload and download links. Koofr groups links by whether they expire within 48 hours, within two weeks, in more than two weeks, or never. The help says you can inspect details, edit or remove links, and see how many times a download link was opened or how many files arrived through an upload link. These counts indicate activity; they do not verify the identity of a recipient. See Koofr’s link-management instructions.
When access should stop, remove the relevant person from the shared folder, remove the share, or delete the upload or download link. Removing a link prevents future access through that link; it cannot erase files a recipient already downloaded. Koofr describes these steps in its instructions for stopping a share.

Understand Koofr’s encryption claims—and Vault’s limits
Koofr says transfers use SSL/TLS and files are encrypted server-side after they reach its servers. Those are Koofr’s descriptions of its service, not an independent security assessment. Its separate Vault feature provides client-side encryption: Koofr says filenames and file contents are encrypted locally before upload, and that the Safe Key is not sent to Koofr. Read the Vault overview and Safe Key explanation for Koofr’s account of those protections.
The reviewed Koofr help describes Vault encryption and ordinary sharing separately; it does not establish whether Vault items can be shared through the standard Send link workflow. Do not assume Vault links work like regular file links: consult Koofr’s current Vault documentation before relying on that workflow.
