You need commands enabled and the required permission. This sets the world-level spawn point; a player who has set a spawn at a bed will still respawn there.
Set world spawn at your current position
- Open the in-game chat or command input.
- Stand at the location you want to use, then enter
/setworldspawn. - Run the command. The position where you issued it becomes the world spawn. Minecraft’s command guide documents this as the no-coordinate form of the command.
Choose a world spawn with coordinates
To set a specific location rather than your current position, enter:

/setworldspawn <x> <y> <z>
Replace <x>, <y>, and <z> with the coordinates you want. The optional coordinate argument is also shown in Microsoft’s Bedrock command reference as /setworldspawn [spawnPoint: x y z].
Enable commands and check permissions
- Bedrock single-player: Enable Allow Cheats. The command requires cheats and Game Directors permission in Microsoft’s Bedrock reference. Enabling cheats permanently disables achievements for that world, even if you later turn cheats off.
- Java single-player: Enable Allow Commands when creating the world, or turn it on later through World Options.
- Multiplayer: If it is someone else’s server, ask an administrator to grant you command access.

Why you may still respawn at your bed
The world spawn is the world-level starting and fallback respawn location; it does not override an individual player’s bed-set spawn. If you have set your spawn with a bed, you will continue to respawn there after dying. Microsoft explains this distinction in its Popular Commands guidance.
Java Edition’s optional facing angle
Java Edition 1.16.2 release notes document the syntax setworldspawn [<pos>] [<angle>]; the optional angle sets the default direction a respawning player faces. This is a version-specific Java detail, not a Bedrock instruction. For the syntax supported by your live world, check /help setworldspawn in-game. See the Java Edition 1.16.2 release notes.
