Start by checking whether your graphics card meets WoW Forever’s announced architecture floor, then choose keyboard and mouse or try the game’s built-in gamepad support. Adjust graphics gradually, and install only addon files explicitly labeled for Forever: the client is in beta, so controls, settings, and addon compatibility can change between builds.
1. Check your graphics card before troubleshooting
Blizzard’s September 17, 2024 requirements announcement sets an architecture floor of AMD Graphics Core Next 1 (introduced in 2012), NVIDIA Maxwell (2014), or Intel Skylake (2015), or newer. These years identify GPU architectures; they are not performance ratings. Blizzard’s examples include Radeon HD 7850, GeForce GTX 9xx and 750/750 Ti, and Intel HD Graphics 530, but explicitly says those example cards are still below the game’s minimum requirements. In Windows, find the GPU model under Settings > System > Display > Advanced display or open Device Manager > Display adapters. Compare the exact model with Blizzard’s current requirements rather than assuming an architecture example will run the game well. Check the GPU before changing drivers or buying hardware.

WoW Forever has an announced built-in gamepad path, while keyboard-and-mouse play remains available. That means a controller addon is not a prerequisite for trying native gamepad support. However, the pre-release support reference does not confirm the final default button layout, supported controller list, or how targeting and cursor behavior work in the current build. Test those details in your own client rather than relying on a universal button map. A generic Xbox-compatible controller is an optional choice for players who prefer gamepad play; no individual model is verified here. See the pre-release gamepad support reference.

Optional: add more controller customization
The third-party Easy Controller – Forever addon says it adds mapping for free controls and controller paddles. Its listing documents the configuration shortcut RB + D-pad down or the slash command /ec config, and gives this beta installation location: World of Warcraft/_classic_beta_/Interface/AddOns/. Those are addon-specific instructions, so check the current listing if the client’s folder layout changes. The author says a full client restart is needed after installing or updating; /reload does not load newly added files. Check the Easy Controller – Forever listing.
3. Tune graphics for your screen and performance needs
There is no established best graphics preset or set of slider values for every GPU, resolution, and performance target. Begin with the game’s own graphics options. Change only a few settings at a time, then compare image quality and smoothness in the areas where you actually play. This makes it easier to identify which change helped or hurt on your system without relying on an unverified universal recommendation.

Optional: use Forever Graphics Panel
Forever Graphics Panel is a beta addon offering controls for camera zoom, vegetation density, fog, bloom, weather, shadows, global illumination, and HDR. It lists a Performance preset that reduces several demanding settings and a Forever Ultra preset that raises selected visual settings; the listing does not provide independent benchmark results. Its ORIGINAL control or /fgp reset restores tracked original CVar values. The listing was updated October 1, 2026, and warns that Blizzard may modify, clamp, disable, or remove graphics CVars between beta builds, so some controls may stop working after an update. 4. Install Forever-compatible addons carefully
Use the specific Forever download, not an addon file intended for another WoW client version. The independent WoW Forever Outpost hub’s checks dated September 26–29, 2026 recommend this cautious sequence:

- On the addon’s project page, confirm the download or game-version label says Forever. Prefer the developer’s current project files for the latest compatibility information.
- Extract the archive and copy every addon folder from the zip into the client’s
Interface/AddOnsfolder. If the addon’s own instructions specify a different client path, follow its current instructions. - Launch the game with addons disabled. Log in, then enable addons one at a time so you can identify a problem addon if something stops working.
Forever’s base interface already replaces some functions commonly supplied by addons, so install an addon for a specific feature you want rather than assuming you need one for every task. Back up your settings before making significant changes. A Blizzard forum thread dated September 21, 2026 discusses settings persistence and reproduces a recovery procedure attributed to Sanya: save changes with /reload or by logging out, back up every .lua file in the WTF folder, then follow the stated client restart and file-restoration sequence. A forum user reported success, but that discussion does not establish a universal or current fix. If settings disappear, consult current official support rather than treating the forum procedure as guaranteed. Read the settings-persistence forum discussion.
